Allen Waters in 2020 RI Senate race
On Education:
Taxpayer dollars should fund all educational options
School choice is about a fundamental right for parents to have access to an educational environment that serves their children best. I believe taxpayer dollars should fund all educational options. Rhode Island parents, and parents across America,
should have a wide range of high-quality schools to choose, like traditional public schools, charter schools, private and religious schools, or virtual learning online. I support the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act in Congress.

On Education:
Phase out government student loans, leave it to free market
One of the ways to reduce the inflationary effect of government backed student loans on rising college costs is to phase the government out of student lending, leaving it to the private sector, such as banks. I don't advocate free tuition which only
shifts the burden of cost to taxpayers. I do believe that free market forces without government intervention will force colleges and universities to align their pricing and affordability to the ability of students and families to pay.

On Government Reform:
Supports amendment to set limits on campaign finance
To preserve our democratic Republic and the suffocating grip of concentrated big-money, I support the 28th Amendment (H.J. Res. 2) in
Congress to set reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money by candidates and others to influence elections.

On War & Peace:
Clean up the poorly managed Veterans Affairs department
There are few things more shameful in America than the sorry state of Veterans Affairs from the waste, fraud and abuse, to the seemingly neverending news of poor treatment of the men and women who have served us in the Armed Forces.
America belongs to the people, and it is time for our elected politicians in Congress to do the business of the people and clean up the swamp of poorly managed government departments like VA.

On Immigration:
A foe of illegal immigration and of sanctuary cities
To begin with, Waters bills himself as a "moderate" with "mainstream American values." He tells me he is "not a socialist" and he is a supporter of "free enterprise, individual liberty, and personal responsibility."
Waters is a foe of illegal immigration and of sanctuary cities and is a supporter of law enforcement and the Second Amendment. He is also pro-Israel.

On Principles & Values:
Grew up in Providence; lived & ran in MA; now running in RI
Allen Rodney Waters describes himself as a black Republican with "conservative values." Waters intends to drop his long-shot campaign against Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts and run against Democrat Jack Reed. Waters has lived in Mashpee (MA) for the
last 15 years, and will move back to his family's home in Providence. Voters in Rhode Island "need to understand" they have a choice, he said.Waters describes himself as a third-generation Rhode Islander, his father a Providence police officer, his
late mother a bookkeeper at The Wheeler School. He graduated in the 1970s from the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in business administration. He left Rhode Island in 2003 to manage a Charles Schwab branch in Baltimore and segued from there to
Mashpee, Mass., where he has lived since 2005.
Waters ran a short-lived campaign against U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2017. [Along with his brief run against Markey in 2019], Waters acknowledges now he had no chance against these "giants."
