Catherine Cortez Masto in 2020s senatorial press release

On Corporations: Introduces bill to encourage diversity on corporate boards

Cortez Masto introduced the Diversity in Corporate Leadership Act of 2020 so that corporate boards reflect our nation's diversity. "For too long, corporate America has failed to make sure the voices of women and communities of color are represented in boardrooms, and the time for change is now," said Cortez Masto. "During Women's History Month, I'm proud to introduce legislation that will help level the playing field in executive suites by increasing transparency and promoting board diversity."

On Crime: Supports peer-to-peer counseling & privacy for law officers

Cortez Masto introduced legislation to encourage the adoption of law enforcement peer counseling programs and protect the privacy of officers. "Peer-to-peer counseling provides valuable mental health support to law enforcement, but a lack of resources and concerns over confidentiality remain barriers to entry for too many departments," said Senator Cortez Masto. " It's time we support public safety officers across the country who are bravely seeking the mental health care they need."

On Environment: Applauds EPA funding to protect Nevada's surface water

Cortez Masto applauded the Environmental Protection Agency for awarding $20.6 million in State Revolving Funds to Nevada to support infrastructure projects that protect surface water and provide safe drinking water. "We're glad to see these funds made available for improvements to water systems all over the Silver State. Everyone in Nevada deserves clean drinking water and reliable water infrastructure, and we'll keep working in the U.S. Senate to ensure that's the case."

On Immigration: Joined on bill to reverse funding diverted for border wall

Cortez Masto joined other Senators to introduce the Restoring Military Priorities Act of 2020. The bill would reverse and restore the Department of Defense's (DoD) recent short-sighted and dangerous transfer of $3.8 billion to be used to build part of President Donald Trump's ineffective border wall. The bill also reduces DoD's transfer authority so that DoD cannot try to divert additional funding for the wall.

On Technology: Co-sponsored bill to protect small business from cyberattack

Cortez Masto introduced legislation to help protect small businesses from expensive data breaches and cyber-attacks. Said Cortez Masto, "Unfortunately, small businesses that don't have the resources to purchase expensive, sophisticated products often bear the brunt of these attacks. I'm proud to cosponsor legislation that will ease the burden on Nevada's small business owners by allowing them to pool together to negotiate cheaper prices and keep their customers' data safe."
