2020 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Drugs

J.B. Pritzker: Legal cannabis creates jobs, businesses, new tax revenue

We made enormous strides when Democrats and Republicans came together to legalize adult-use cannabis which will result in 63,000 new jobs, and new opportunities for entrepreneurs, especially those from communities that have been left behind. It gives us a chance to collect tax revenue from the residents of Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa and Indiana, and most importantly, we're giving a second chance to hundreds of thousands of people who had a low level cannabis conviction or arrest.

Charlie Baker: Led the nation in responding to warning signs for vaping

We led the nation in responding to the growing body of evidence concerning this relatively new activity. As the warning signs of sudden illness, injury, and death here in Massachusetts and across the country became clear, we acted. Together we moved quickly to protect our teens and adults. And today we have the most comprehensive legal framework in the country to oversee and regulate this untested, and potentially dangerous, activity.

Michelle Lujan-Grisham: Cannabis is the next frontier of economic expansion

Recreational cannabis can be the next frontier of our economic expansion. We can get in on the ground floor or we can try to play catch up--I know which one I prefer. And I know which one New Mexicans prefer: 75 percent of New Mexico supports the legalization of adult-use cannabis, including strong support in rural areas.

Jim Justice: Create Narcotics Intelligence Unit strike force

I am ordering Secretary Jeff Sandy to form a new unit called a Narcotics Intelligence Unit. A new unit at the Fusion Center. It will be a strike force. I'm going to ask you for $1.9 million. And I'm going to ask you to give us that to stop this terrible effort. I want to look right in the camera and tell anybody that is trying to come into our state with drugs: We are going to bust your ass.
