Chris Sununu: Accommodate infants in workplace; support paid family leave

We must provide greater flexibility in our workforce. We established our Infants in the Workplace Initiative, which will allow state employees to bring their infants to work in the early stages of life, which will keep our state competitive and provide immense benefits to family.

Senator Jeb Bradley's bill which I wholeheartedly SUPPORT is the only shot at delivering a viable voluntary paid family leave program that does not contain an income tax. Let's get it done.

Gretchen Whitmer: Extend postpartum care from 60 days to a full year

We will extend postpartum care from 60 days to one full year after giving birth, and move up a woman's first postpartum visit to within three weeks, with a comprehensive visit within 12 weeks. This will help new moms heal, and work through postpartum depression and anxiety after giving birth. We'll let a woman choose birth control that works for her. A novel idea, I know--we're going to ask a woman what she wants, ensure she can get it in one visit, and provide coverage for it. Source: 2020 Michigan State of the State address Jan 29, 2020

John Carney: Give children books free of charge from birth to school

We're launching a pilot of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Participating children will receive one book each month from birth to five years old--free of charge. The program will be centered in 13 public libraries covering thousands of children in five targeted school districts. We're also working with Delaware's pediatricians to get books to families right from the start. These efforts will help families build home libraries that could span generations. David Ige: Build 17,000 affordable homes on state-owned land

We propose to build 17,000 affordable homes over the next decade on state-owned land in partnership with private developers. The homes would be sold as leasehold, effectively removing the biggest cost for developers: land. That, in turn, will dramatically bring down the price of the homes they build. Moreover, as the landlord, the state will be able to keep these homes affordable while allowing leaseholders to reasonably share in the equity when they are ready to sell. Kim Reynolds: Expand Early Childhood tax credits

Childcare is the next workforce issue we need to tackle. Let's make childcare more affordable by expanding Early Childhood tax credits. Currently, they are available to families making $45,000 or less; I'm recommending that be doubled to $90,000. We must begin to address the child-care cliff so we are not punishing parents as they continue on a path to self-sufficiency. Jared Polis: Wants "unique Colorado solution" to provide paid leave

We need to find a way to enact paid family and medical leave for more Coloradans. The Federal Family and Medical Leave Act allows for unpaid leave, but that still forces families to choose between getting a paycheck and caring for a newborn child, an aging parent, or themselves. I'm hopeful we can construct a unique Colorado solution that provides paid time off to many more Coloradans as soon as possible, without straining state resources or forcing taxpayers to bear the financial risk.
