Manny Sethi in 2020 TN Senate race

On Budget & Economy: Will fight out of control federal spending

Paul praised Sethi for supporting Trump but also said the Nashville trauma surgeon is a "physician, not another politician."

"Tennessee deserves a true conservative who supports President Trump, is pro-liberty, and will fight out-of-control federal spending," Paul said in Sethi's news release. "I believe Dr. Manny is the right choice, like me, he's a physician, not another politician. We need more outsiders in Washington, and I'm proud to endorse him today."

On Drugs: Wants to promote faith-based recovery programs for addicts

Sethi said he wants to promote faith-based recovery programs for those facing addictions. He became a Christian after the death of his father and said his own faith guides every decision he makes. He, along with his wife Maya and two children, attends McKendree United Methodist Church in Nashville.

On Free Trade: Need a second Industrial Revolution to bring jobs back to US

"All these Washington insiders, career politicians, have sold American jobs down the drain to save a buck," he said. "It's not just the healthcare supply chain; it's so many others that we rely on.

"We need to have a second Industrial Revolution in this country and bring these jobs back here."

On Immigration: End birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants

Last year, Sethi released a three-point plan on immigration that consists of building the border wall across the southern border of the U.S. and returning to a merit-based immigration system and ending birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants. "Right now people come over--low-skilled immigrants--and they can't survive and so end up on benefits," he said. "We need people who make meaningful contributions to society."

On Health Care: Against government required vaccinations

Sethi vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and told a woman who asked Sethi to explain his position on vaccines that he doesn't believe the government "has the right to tell you what you can put into your body." He said those decisions should be left between patients and their doctors.

On Homeland Security: Agrees with Trump that Antifa is terrorist organization

Sethi echoed the comments of many of his Republican counterparts in praising Trump's condemnation of the riots in Nashville and other cities. Those riots followed what were intended to be peaceful demonstrations to protest racism and brutality by police officers. Sethi said he "agreed with President Trump that the looting and the violence was related to Antifa, and applauds the president in declaring the group a terrorist organization."

On Tax Reform: Reduce regulation; cut taxes for long-term growth

As we tackle the virus, we also need immediate economic solutions to help small businesses. We should reduce regulation, increase access to small business loans and cut taxes for long-term growth. We should also make it easier for companies to move their operations back to America from China.

On Abortion: A strong supporter of the Heartbeat Bill

I am pro-life. Period. As a doctor, I know that life begins at conception, and for too long politicians have failed to stand up for the sanctity of life. That is why I am a such a strong supporter of the heartbeat bill here in Tennessee and will do the same when I'm in D.C. We need to confirm judges who will protect life, and the most vulnerable - the unborn.

On Drugs: Let local officials have more authority on opioid crisis

It's clear that we need to put more power into local officials, because they know what is best for the people in their community. We need to punish pill-pushers who are pushing fentanyl. We need the federal government to give more decision making authority to local communities. Our local mayors and sheriffs know more in their little fingers than D.C. bureaucrats do in their whole bodies. There is no one size fits all solution.

On Gun Control: Red-flag laws are unconstitutional

I am a staunch supporter of our 2nd Amendment Rights. As a concealed carry permit holder, I know that our Constitutional Rights are not up for debate. These days you are hearing career politicians on both sides of the aisle talking about red flag laws. These are unconstitutional and will lead to many problems and bad faith actors. I will fight to ensure our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

On Health Care: We need less government involvement in healthcare, not more

As a doctor, I know firsthand the huge problems with Obamacare. I'm the only candidate in this race who has read the entire bill and understands it. We need less government involvement in our healthcare, not more. Working with President Trump, I'll fight to repeal and replace it, without backing down. The fundamentals of a health care system must be based on a free market solution that allows competition across state lines. We must focus on access, quality, and transparency.

On Immigration: We're giving away our nation

I'm the son of two LEGAL immigrants. They stood in line, waited their turn, and came here the right way, becoming doctors in rural Tennessee. I support President Trump's effort to build the wall, and support ICE. It simply isn't right for people to illegally cross our borders unchecked or overstay their visas with no consequences. Giving benefits to those who come here illegally isn't protecting the rule of law. We're giving away our nation.

On Principles & Values: Work to fight for our Christian values

Matthew 9:13 tells us, "The harvest is plenty but the workers are few." My faith is everything to me. It's what guides me; it's who I am. It's why I became a doctor. It's why I do what I do. After my father passed away, it led me to a closer relationship with Christ. My faith is what shapes my views, and will guide every decision I make in Washington, as I work to fight for our Christian values.

On War & Peace: Improve VA hospitals; provide quality mental health care

We can never neglect the brave men and women who have served our country. Our veterans are heroes, and we must do more to take care of these incredible people. Our VA hospitals must improve and I will commit to making that happen, but we have to allow our veterans the option to choose the doctor they want to go to. For too long we have neglected the mental health needs of our veterans. We must work to make sure that there is access to quality mental health care for every veteran.

On Immigration: We need a merit-based system to admit immigrants

When the issue of illegal immigration is raised, Sethi said his mother "gets fired up." "I waited my turn," his mother will say. "I stood in line." It's the same feeling Sethi feels today. Not only should immigrants go through the proper channels to become citizens, the U.S. should also be selective in who arrives here to live. "We need a merit-based system," he said. "Skilled workers who can thrive." He also supports the Trump Administration's push to build a wall on the border with Mexico.

On Abortion: Opposed to exceptions for rape and incest

Sethi said the only exception he would consider for abortion would be in cases in which the life of the mother is in jeopardy. "I also believe that those are the rarest of cases and usually you can save both the mother and baby," he said. In terms of exceptions for cases of rape and incest, Sethi said the issue was personal. "I've taken care of patients who were conceived (after) rape," he said, adding he is opposed to such exceptions.

On Education: Not government's role to wipe away college debt

We need to solve this college debt issue and lower prices of what schools are charging and figure out a way that students don't come out strapped with $200,000 in debt.

I don't believe it's the role of government to wipe away college debt. We need to take a look at what colleges are charging and figure out how to lower costs. In a competitive job market with free market rules, there's an effective way to solve this, but government is not the answer.
