On War & Peace: Get US away from ethnic cleansing of Kurds by Turks

Cornyn defended the president's abrupt decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, arguing that with Turkey intent on ethnic cleansing of the Kurds--longtime U.S. allies in the fight against the radical Islamic State--the move had merit. "If Turkey was planning on coming into northern Syria and trying to ethnically cleanse the Kurds, and U.S. troops were caught in the middle, I am not completely convinced that it was a bad idea to get them out of harm's way," Cornyn said.

On Families & Children: Supports using campaign funds for candidate child care

MJ Hegar, candidate for U.S. Senate and mother of two young kids, has asked the Federal Election Commission for approval to spend campaign donations on child care as she seeks to oust Sen. John Cornyn. "The time and travel demands of federal candidacy place a unique burden on the parents of young children," she told the commission.

Cornyn weighed in Friday with the commission--offering his "full support."

On Crime: Co-wrote bill for data-driven cooperation to fight crime

The House passed a bill introduced by Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and John Cornyn (R-TX), the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authorization Act of 2018, which would authorize a nationwide law enforcement program focused on the reduction of violent crime. The bill passed the Senate unanimously.

["Partnerships between federal, state, and local law enforcement, something I implemented as Texas Attorney General, are an effective way to reduce crime rates and protect our communities," said Senator Cornyn. "The Project Safe Neighborhoods program helps law enforcement at all levels across the country to investigate and prosecute the most dangerous and repeat offenders."]

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a nationwide partnership between federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutors that uses evidence-based and data-driven approaches to reduce violent crime.
