2020 TX Senate race: on War & Peace

MJ Hegar: Reserve deployment of American troops as a last resort

I will support responsible national security policies that recognize the value of seeking diplomatic solutions and employing strategic use of humanitarian assistance and trade negotiations, while insisting we reserve the deployment of American troops as a last resort. I believe a healthy State Department is our military's first line of defense, and our relationships with our allies are fragile and critical to maintain.

Sema Hernandez: Overdue for plan to end the wars & bring troops home

We have hundreds of military bases across the globe, which we use to constantly intervene in the foreign affairs of other countries without their request for aid. We are long overdue for an exit plan to end the wars, bring our troops home, fund transition programs for our veterans form combat to civilian life. Arms sales to nations with corrupt governments should be prohibited. We must work on diplomacy, stop creating conflict and arming terrorists.

John Cornyn: Get US away from ethnic cleansing of Kurds by Turks

Cornyn defended the president's abrupt decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, arguing that with Turkey intent on ethnic cleansing of the Kurds--longtime U.S. allies in the fight against the radical Islamic State--the move had merit. "If Turkey was planning on coming into northern Syria and trying to ethnically cleanse the Kurds, and U.S. troops were caught in the middle, I am not completely convinced that it was a bad idea to get them out of harm's way," Cornyn said.

Ted Cruz: Turkey's incursion into Syria is totally unacceptable

Cruz called Trump's decision to pull out of Syria "precipitous," for putting Kurds at risk and inviting a resurgence of ISIS. "Turkey's incursion is totally unacceptable," Cruz said. "This invasion endangered our Kurdish partners and unfortunately now risks a resurgence of ISIS. The United States should stand by our Kurdish allies, who have a long history of standing with America against our enemies and try to stop the chaos that ISIS fighters are taking advantage of by escaping prison."
