Chris Peterson in 2020 UT Governor's race

On Technology: Balance water infrastructure needs with impact

On the proposed Lake Powell Pipeline [diverting the Colorado River for municipal water], Peterson said he supports it--with caveats. "I recognize Washington County needs a reliable source of water. It is a growing community that is expanding," Peterson said. However, he cited concerns about the budget for the pipeline as well as ongoing litigation. "I'm worried about cost overruns & the impact in neighboring communities. I believe that we need to proceed with caution as our tax dollars are concerned."

On Welfare & Poverty: Continue pandemic moratorium on rent to help families

Chris Peterson is worried Gov. Gary Herbert is ending the rent moratorium too soon. "We are not all the way back yet and there are a lot of families and consumers struggling." Peterson is quick to note he's "not saying this should be a permanent thing."

"This is not the time to throw mothers and children into the street," he said, instead "we need to work together give these people a little more time to get caught up on rent."
