Jon Huntsman in 2020 UT Governor's race

On Energy & Oil: Growing concern over environmental impacts of coal

Huntsman said investing in a deep water terminal was an "audacious goal" on the part of state lawmakers but warned that the "headwinds against coal are strong." "There has been little interest from investors in coal port infrastructure," he wrote. "Capital is a coward and investors around the world are reading the signs that show growing concern over the environmental impacts of coal."

On Health Care: Make state a trusted source on Coronavirus

The good news is that the testing standards have been loosened recently, and more tests have been made available. We have the capacity to begin moderate testing here from people who have had direct contact or traveled to areas that we know there is rapid spread of the virus and are exhibiting symptoms. We have 400 test kits that were made available to us. We, like other states, are following the guidelines that have been given.

What we're doing is we are putting out daily accurate information. We want everyone to know what is happening. There's a lot of information out there. What we're attempting to do is to be the trusted source of information for the people of the state of Utah so they can tune everything else out, go to our social media, our website and get the most accurate and up-to-date information.

On Tax Reform: Education funding is critical to long-term prosperity

Tax reform is a significant undertaking that requires vision and gubernatorial leadership. Education funding is critical to our long-term prosperity as a state, so the effort to strengthen safeguards for funding students is a commendable element of the legislature's proposal. I will always fight for the very best outcome for our students and teachers, just as I did as governor.

On Foreign Policy: Notion of national decline is "un-American"

When great powers begin to experience erosion in their global standing, their leaders inevitably strike a pose of denial. We are seeing a similar phenomenon today in America, where the topic of decline stirs discomfort in national leaders. Mitt Romney stated flatly that he "rejects the philosophy of decline in all of its variants." And former U.S. ambassador to China and one-time GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman pronounced decline to be simply "un-American."
