Elizabeth Warren in 2020 Vice Presidential prospects

On Foreign Policy: Signed letter opposing Israeli annexation of territories

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramilla Jayapal sent a Dear Colleague letter to Secretary of State Pompeo, expressing concern that annexation would "lay the groundwork for Israel becoming an apartheid state" and calling for the non-recognition of annexed land and withholding of some of the $3.8 billion in military funding. Her compelling letter was signed by a dozen other Congresspeople, including influential figures such as Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Sen. Bernie Sanders.

The AOC-Jayapal letter on annexation made headlines and sent the Israel lobby into a tizzy, frantically trying to stop any other lawmakers from signing on. But just a few days later, on July 2, another unexpected action came. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, supported by Senators Sanders, Warren, Leahy, and others, filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to prohibit US military aid from being used in any annexation activities.

On Government Reform: Vote by mail is an easy solution to pandemic restrictions

Warren is championing a vote-by-mail plan for the entire country, calling it an "easy" solution to the restrictions prompted by the coronavirus pandemic. "A voter gets a ballot with a postage-paid return envelope. They vote, they sign it, and they send it back. It's easy to vote by mail," Warren said. "There should be online registration, extended registration deadlines, and expand early voting to make sure that voting is accessible to all people," she said.

On Budget & Economy: Second income from spouses didn't make families wealthier

The problem isn't that women work. It's that the capitalist system has adjusted in ways that exploit families. That second income wasn't making families wealthier--it was just allowing the capitalist system to drive up the cost of everyday living and maximize profits.

"Women's issues are not just about childbearing or domestic violence," Warren and [her daughter] Tyagi wrote. "If framed properly, middle-class economic reform could galvanize millions to join the fight for women's issues." Warren has released a detailed plan for universal day care--which she wants to pay for by taxing the wealthy, which is a double whammy, lifting women up economically while also reducing wealth inequalities. Warren's key insight from her legal career until now is that women are economic actors, and this fact cannot be siloed off from other women's issues. She talks about women's issues and economic issues as one and the same thing.
