Mike Pence in 2020 Vice Presidential prospects

On Health Care: Coronavirus testing is state managed but federally supported

While the president has made it clear that we want the governors to implement and deploy testing where they deem it's most appropriate, we're going to continue to fully partner with states to make sure that they have the reagents and test kits necessary to perform those tests. It is state managed. But it's federally supported. The federal government at the president's direction will continue to support governors as they deploy the testing resources in the time and manner of their choosing.

On Health Care: Smoking doesn't kill; 90% of smokers don't get lung cancer

On public health: "Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn't kill. In fact, two out of every three smokers do not die from a smoking-related illness and nine out of 10 smokers do not contract lung cancer," Pence said in 2000. Additionally, Pence has advocated teaching creationism in American public schools and, as governor of Indiana, had an HIV outbreak explode on his watch because he moved too slowly on approving needle exchanges.

On Technology: Send pioneers to Mars, by any means necessary

Returning American astronauts to the moon in 2024, and then sending pioneers on to Mars in the next decade, remains a top priority for the Trump administration, Vice President Mike Pence stressed. "The president has made it clear that we're going to accomplish this goal by any means necessary," Pence said during a speech to employees at NASA's Langley Research Center in Virginia.

"In order to succeed, we are going to continue to focus on the mission over the means," added Pence, who also chairs the policy-steering National Space Council. "We want to challenge each one of you here at Langley: Consider every available option and platform to meet our goals, including industry, government--the entire American space enterprise."

Pence highlighted the progress being made in the private spaceflight sector, noting that SpaceX is poised to launch NASA astronauts to the International Space Station sometime this spring.

On War & Peace: Grateful Trump is always focused on safety of troops

I have to tell you as the father of the United States Marine, I couldn't be more grateful that we have a commander in chief that is always asking about whether American forces have to be in harm's way. ISIS the caliphate had been destroyed so the president said we'll bring them home. But last night, the president proved to the world that our fight against ISIS is unrelenting. By killing the leader of ISIS, we believe we'll have a measurable impact on that terrorist organization.

On Technology: Adversaries have weaponized space; solution is Space Force

The domain of space, once desolate and uncontested, is now crowded and confrontational. While our adversaries have weaponized space, too often we have bureaucratized it. Responsibility for our national-security space programs is spread across more than 60 departments and agencies, resulting in a lack of accountability that puts our war-fighters at risk. in this administration, we are no longer just studying the problem--we're starting to fix it. And the Space Force is the solution.
