2021 CA Governor's race: on Energy & Oil

Caitlyn Jenner: Skeptical of state goal of zero emissions by 2045

She would consider changes to the California Environmental Quality Act. "I am all for the environment but we cannot destroy our states?" she said. "As far as regulations, I would freeze everything. Some of these regulations have been on the books since before the fax machine." She would take a hard look at environmental regulations in California and would "probably not" keep in place California's goal of relying entirely on zero emission energy sources for electricity by 2045.

John Cox: We must employ an all-of-the-above strategy

It's unacceptable to have blackouts; it's due to a lack of supply. We must employ an all-of-the-above strategy - meaning more natural gas production, preserve hydroelectric power and expand modern and safe nuclear energy. We must also promote competition for utilities in an effort to bring down the costs for California families.

Kevin Faulconer: Unleash technological might to become energy independent

As governor, Kevin Faulconer will keep power companies accountable for providing safe and dependable electricity. He will unleash California's technological might and entrepreneurial spirit to make us more energy independent, adding middle-class jobs as we build and sell tomorrow's clean energy. And he will hold the utilities responsible for wildfires while increasing forest management to keep fires from starting in the first place.

Kevin Paffrath: Allow reasonable upgrades to existing fuel infrastructure

It is well-known that many of our transmission lines are from the 1930s and 1950s and are well past their useful lives, or our 1970s natural gas infrastructure burns much dirtier than it should. However, many cannot be updated because local codes require certain improvements to be 100 percent green. Thereby, we're mandating 100 percent green while hurting our climate. Allowing reasonable upgrades to existing infrastructure is a must.
