Survey of 2021 Senate campaign websites: on Budget & Economy

Lily Zhou: Decrease national debt to run healthy economy

She aims to decrease our national debt in order to run an efficient and healthy economy.

Marjorie K. Eastman: Run our federal budget like we run our home budgets

In order to combat inflation, we must rein in federal spending, cut unnecessary programs, and start running our federal budget like we run our home budgets. Marjorie will stand in the way of wasteful spending at every turn to ensure that tax dollars are only spent when absolutely necessary to keep more money in the pockets of North Carolinians. She will demand that the federal government be responsible stewards of American taxpayers' money.

Billy Long: Put an end to the out of control spending sprees

Our national debt continues to climb, and inflation is running rampant, but the Democrats keep spending trillions of dollars that we do not have. We are burdening our children and our children's children with massive amounts of debt. We can't tax our way out of this spending problem, we must put an end to the out of control spending sprees.

Jake Bequette: Advocate for less government spending, a balanced budget

In the last twenty years, the national debt has grown by an outrageous $17.6 Trillion. It is the responsibility of those in Congress to balance America's budget. Jake is a strong fiscal conservative with a plan to rein-in the Left's big spending and restore our country's economic reputation. Every dollar spent by the government is one less in the pockets of hardworking Americans. In the U.S. Senate, Jake will advocate for lower taxes, less government spending, and a balanced budget.

Haneefah Khaaliq: Find new forms of revenue; support national rent control

I support national rent control, capping rent increases at no more than 2.4 percent or 1.2 times the rate of inflation, whichever is higher, and allow states and cities to impose more stringent rent control standards. Additionally, any increases in rent would have to now be supplanted by justification and before any increases become final, the burden rests with landlords to prove tenants can pay the additional amount.

Gary Black: Federal government shouldn't pay people to stay home

We should be building roads and bridges, strengthening ports, and securing our power grid. But we should do so without trillions spent on pet projects that set our country's fiscal future on fire.

Joe Biden and Raphael Warnock's policies have created a labor shortage, spiraling inflation, and added trillions more to our national debt. Businesses should compete with reasonable oversight, but without competition from a federal government that pays people to stay home. As Agriculture Commissioner, we created new markets, expanded jobs, and gave businesses the support they needed to start and grow. I'll put that experience to work to create opportunity, not dependency.

JD Vance: It's time to get inflation under control

Why do we need a "transportation equity" agency to ensure that we don't have too many male truck drivers? Why are we spending billions on battery technologies that are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party and built by Chinese workers? The result of needless spending is runaway inflation, which has made it harder for normal Americans to afford basic necessities. Inflation has hit our seniors especially hard, many of whom live on a fixed income. It's time to get this inflation under control.

Matt Dolan: Ballooning national debt is a national security threat

Ohio's hardworking families should not be forced to bear the brunt of Washington's reckless and out-of-control spending binge. For too long lawmakers have ignored our ballooning national debt and have failed to take action. This represents nothing less than a national security threat to ourselves and future generations. As a fiscal conservative, I will fight wasteful spending and protect Ohio taxpayers' hard-earned dollars.

As a State Senator and Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, Matt Dolan has solidified his standing as a conservative leader by keeping his promises to reduce the size and scope of government, protect Ohio communities, and deliver record-breaking tax cuts. Matt's most recent budget earned wide praise from state and national conservative organizations, including the Ohio Republican Party which labeled his effort "the most conservative budget in Ohio legislative history."

Matt Dolan: Support targeted infrastructure, not bloated wishlists

An overhaul of America's infrastructure is long overdue. I will oppose bloated Democrat wishlists that contribute to our nation's debt while also keeping up the fight for targeted infrastructure that is paid for, does not contribute to inflation and directly improves Ohio energy production, roads, bridges and airports to boost economic growth and American competitiveness against China.

Craig Snyder: We believe in democratic capitalism, not socialism

We believe in democratic capitalism, not socialism in any form. We know America is richer than any other nation because we figured out how to create more wealth than any previous society and that Americans almost always created that wealth through enterprise and innovation, not because they took anything unfairly from folks who have less. We want to empower more opportunities for all Americans, not make or keep any American downtrodden and dependent on entitlements from the government.

Jason Beebe: Give business incentives to grow economy, not higher taxes

To help economies grow, incentives work. Not more government control. I will take this same approach in moving aside and letting businesses thrive. It is a proven economic development approach. Unless we have leadership that is focused on jobs and the economy versus raising taxes and forcing companies to move their money off shore we will not be successful.

Jason Beebe: Very simple, we spend too much money

Very simple, we spend too much money. The trillions that Biden is proposing is out of control. The amount of pet projects that gets dumped into this spending bills are atrocious. We can't put all the debt (and associated taxes) on the back of our grandkids.

Rett Newton: Raise the minimum wage, reinvest in infrastructure

The pandemic has brought about a devastating economic crisis that has intensified the gap between the haves and the have nots, with millions out of work, small businesses crumbling and the rich getting even richer. Many Americans and North Carolinians are struggling to afford food, housing, and basic necessities. As our Senator, Rett will work to support small businesses, raise the minimum wage, expand workers' rights, and reinvest in North Carolina's infrastructure to create local jobs.

Janice McGeachin: Ready to wean ourselves off the federal teat

We must get our financial house in order. Our country is nearly $30 trillion in debt, inflation is rising quickly, and the position of the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency is at risk. We can't solve all of our nation's financial woes here in Idaho, but we must do our part to get our fiscal house in order, even if it means weaning ourselves off the federal teet [sic].

Tiffany Smiley: Lift people up rather than spend billions on failed programs

Failures in our education system trickle down to the problems we see every day on our streets. The homelessness, increased crime rates, drug addiction, and poverty in our communities is not something we can turn a blind eye to. This problem demands a solution that lifts people up rather than tying them to yet another failed government program that spends billions of our tax dollars, with little actually reaching those in need.

Jeff Jackson: Supports a robust federal COVID relief package

Jeff has called for a robust COVID-19 relief package from the federal government that includes funding for state and local governments, money for local school districts so our kids can get back to in-person class safely, aid to people who need it, and help for small businesses.

Katie Britt: Support Constitutional amendment for balanced federal budget

I wholeheartedly believe the ballooning national debt is an existential crisis for our Republic. One of my first actions as U.S. Senator for Alabama will be introducing a constitutional amendment to mandate the federal government balances its budget every year, just as the State of Alabama does. Democrats in Congress, along with the Biden Administration, are acting like they're dealing out Monopoly money while paying people to stay at home instead of working.

Mark McCloskey: Balance the budget in 5 years by cutting 1% across the board

We're seeing the negative effects of inflation and spending right now under the Biden administration. But for too long, politicians in BOTH parties have spent too much of YOUR hard earned money! Mark McCloskey will go to Washington to be Missouri's fiscal hawk and advocate to cut spending and unnecessary regulations. Mark supports the Penny Plan, which balances the budget in 5 years by cutting 1% across the board?.

Vicky Hartzler: Co-sponsored Balanced Budget Amendment, Line-Item Veto

As a strong fiscal conservative, Vicky cosponsored the Balanced Budget Amendment and the Line-Item Veto because she believes the federal government should have to live within its means like Missouri families. She has led the fight to protect American jobs by working to expand markets for American products, including Missouri agricultural products, and has worked to expand broadband in rural and underserved communities.

James Bradley: Use tax incentives to stimulate small businesses

John Hoeven: Improve and expand roads, bridges, airports, rail systems

To maintain the high quality of life we expect in our state, I am working to ensure that we invest in transportation infrastructure and improvements to move people and products safely and efficiently in our communities. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I continue to work to improve and expand roads, bridges, airports and rail systems in North Dakota.

John Hoeven: Government doesn't create jobs, economic growth; people do

For too long, the federal government has stood as an obstacle to economic growth. Government doesn't create jobs and economic growth; people do. The role of government is to remove obstacles and create a positive business climate that will help spur job creation and economic growth, as we have in North Dakota. If we empower the private sector to invest, innovate and create jobs, we will build a higher standard of living for our citizens.

James Lankford: The debt problem is a spending problem not a tax problem

The debt problem is a spending problem, not a tax problem. Tax receipts are the highest ever. But, the federal government wastes billions of hardworking taxpayer dollars in unnecessary programs, indiscriminate foreign aid and horrible financial management. High debt slows down the current economy and it will hurt the economic future of the nation. Solving the budget crisis is not simple, but it is achievable with a long term goal and a commitment to eliminate wasteful spending and red tape.

Our code should respect, not punish, people who work hard, play by the rules and make a good living. We also should not tax people when they die and take money from their family. That is immoral. We must eliminate the death tax.

Everett Stern: End notion that only job of business is to maximize profit

A radical free market fundamentalism has stripped the US of vital manufacturing know-how for the purposes of enriching the few and impoverishing our working and middle classes. In a grab for quick profits, the life blood of our prosperity and National Security is being drained. The economic ideology of Milton Friedman, that the only job of CEOs and company executives is to maximize profits for shareholders at the expense of fraying the social fabric of this country has to come to an end.

Michael Crapo: Eliminate unnecessary and wasteful government spending

I have co-sponsored the Balanced Budget Amendment every year I have been in Congress and have consistently fought to eliminate unnecessary and wasteful government spending. A robust private sector--not more government spending--creates real economic opportunity for families and small businesses. The current level of our national debt is unsustainable and unacceptable. I co-sponsored several bills that call for balancing the federal budget by moving to a biennial federal budget process.

Mike Gibbons: We need to get our economy back on track

I'm running for Senate because we need to get our economy back on track. We need to rein in runaway federal spending. We need to secure our borders, stand for life, and defend our 2nd Amendment rights.

Lucas Kunce: We can create a Marshall Plan for the Midwest

Together, we can stop printing money for Wall Street and start funding our schools. We can create a Marshall Plan for the Midwest to rebuild our forgotten towns and cities. We can fix our roads. We can make our communities safer and our homes and businesses more energy-efficient. We can address racial inequity by demanding an agenda that puts working people first, and that stops the Washington special interests from calling the shots.
