Everett Stern in Survey of 2021 Senate campaign websites

On Budget & Economy: End notion that only job of business is to maximize profit

A radical free market fundamentalism has stripped the US of vital manufacturing know-how for the purposes of enriching the few and impoverishing our working and middle classes. In a grab for quick profits, the life blood of our prosperity and National Security is being drained. The economic ideology of Milton Friedman, that the only job of CEOs and company executives is to maximize profits for shareholders at the expense of fraying the social fabric of this country has to come to an end.

On Corporations: Businesses shouldn't have to violate their religious beliefs

I believe that government has no right to tell restaurants and other businesses how they should designate their public bathroom for customers. Nor, as the Supreme Court ruled, does a business have to perform services if it runs counter to their religious beliefs.

On Crime: Calls to defund the police is open invitation for anarchy

Calls to "Defund The Police" are an open invitation for anarchy. Our police are overburdened with responsibilities that are not germane to their mission in society, such as, dealing with marital disputes and the mentally ill. These situations are the domain of social workers. The core mission of the police is to protect citizens from criminals. Rather than "Defund The Police", we need to fund trained specialists. This will allow the police to focus on the job they are suppose

On Education: Parents and families have first responsibility for education

Throwing money at education has never been shown to increase performance. For students to succeed in school, they must first be willing to do the hard work of studying. The first responsibility for ensuring that students benefit from school lies with their parents and families.

On Education: More funding for vocational training, community colleges

I am proposing to reintroduce vocational training for students interested in learning a trade that will give them the ability to function as valuable wealth creating citizens to meet the needs of the information economy. There are high paying jobs going vacant in healthcare, data sciences and other areas of the economy that need filling. To accomplish this education funding needs to be channeled to Community Colleges.

On Energy & Oil: Changing technology is opportunity to replace infrastructure

The changes in climate and extreme weather events over the past decades are challenges faced by States across the country. They are also opportunities to create new businesses and invest in new technologies and infrastructure, such as wind turbines, solar panels, 5G, electric vehicles, and other new industries This will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and by extension overseas military involvement. Much of our infrastructure is based on inefficient, outdated systems of creation and delivery.

On Gun Control: Keep guns away from criminals, in law-abiding citizen hands

The Second Amendment to the Constitution permits the ownership of firearms. The US is a big country and many of our citizens rely on gun ownership as the last line of defense against those wishing harm, especially in areas where there are minimal law enforcement resources. Even those in urban areas have the right to protect themselves and their property. I believe in keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals and in the hands of law-abiding citizens.

On Homeland Security: Corruption of government is a National Security threat

Stern believes that corruption at all levels undermines the people's faith in our US system of government. Corruption is a National Security threat, it weakens our influence overseas and leads to inevitable economic decline. With Everett Stern in Washington the citizens of this country have a tried-and-true American Patriot willing to walk the talk.

On Immigration: Create work visa program that respects the rule of law

The time is long past for government and industry to get together and create a comprehensive work visa system that respects the rule of law. The economic security of our citizens and the working conditions for those allowed to work in the US legally depend on it. I intend to press for a temporary work visa program to address the needs of our industries, ensuring that the livelihoods of our citizens are given priority and those given entry are treated fairly.

On Principles & Values: I am a passionate believer in the First Amendment

I am a passionate believer in the First Amendment. Freedom of speech is a pillar of democracy. It is not the responsibility of government to pressure corporations like Facebook and Twitter to restrict the speech of those whose views they do not approve. If speech is inflammatory, slanderous or does harm to others, there are laws that address those situations. The first step on the road to totalitarianism is placing limits on freedom of speech.

On Tax Reform: Large companies should pay taxes like smaller businesses

I intend to press for a restructuring of the outsourcing of our manufacturing by introducing a special tax on companies that move more than 15% of their production overseas and a requirement that funds held in offshore accounts be returned. Large companies should pay taxes just as our smaller and medium size businesses.

On War & Peace: Don't get into wars not in interest of US and allies

The cornerstone of Conservatism is to protect the United States and its interests. That means giving our military what it needs to do the job, the know-how, equipment and training to manage hundreds of bases, to defend against enemies wishing to do us harm. To accomplish this, the US forms alliances with like-minded countries that share our interests and a desire to be open free democratic countries. It also means not getting into wars that are not in the interests of the US and our allies.
