Survey of 2021 Senate campaign websites: on Health Care

Brandaun Dean: Personally intervened to save employee health insurance

Despite little cooperation from the city council, he saved employee health insurance by making a surprise appearance at a five-member insurance board hearing where he illustrated the city's hardships but willingness to cooperate with demands in order to avoid loss of coverage.

Haneefah Khaaliq: For public option, private insurance for those who choose

I believe in government funded healthcare options for those on fixed incomes, the indigent, the elderly and those with disabilities. I also believe in the privatization of healthcare as far as individuals being able to choose. I'm a strong advocate for new healthcare and hospital systems which use sliding fee scales to guarantee healthcare to individuals based on their income. There should be more transparency, regulation and control over rising costs.

JD Vance: COVID: against vax passports, mask mandates

COVID-19 is undoubtedly a horrible disease that has killed many Americans. But we now know enough about COVID and have developed therapies and vaccines that should allow us to get back to normal. You shouldn't have to "show your papers" to go to a restaurant in our country, and our children--who are not at significant risk from COVID-19--should be able to go to school in person, without masks hiding the faces of their friends and teachers.

Matt Dolan: Obamacare has become a tool of partisan grift

Tim Shepard: We should guarantee healthcare for every American

Healthcare is a human right, not a commodity that can be driven by economic competition to be priced out of reach for over 30 million people in the United States. In the wealthiest nation on earth, we owe it to ourselves to guarantee healthcare for every American. Medicare for All will allow people to seek employment opportunities that best fit with their talents and interests, instead of being trapped in a particular job based on the ability to afford health care.

Valerie McCray: Medicare for all, better for all

Medicare for all, better for all. We know there is a direct link between health and quality of life. It follows that there would be a link between mental health and quality of life.

Pharmaceutical cost. No one should have to choose between paying rent and paying for life-saving medicine like insulin or any other medication.

Rett Newton: Strengthen Affordable Care Act, expand Medicaid

No family should have to go bankrupt to pay for their medical bills. The COVID-19 crisis highlighted the many failures in our health care system and the urgent need for reform. In the Senate, Rett will fight to lower prescription drug costs, protect North Carolinians with pre-existing conditions, and strengthen the Affordable Care Act. Rett will work to expand Medicaid in North Carolina and ensure that every American has equal access to quality, affordable health care.

Janice McGeachin: Support your right to try non-traditional health remedies

Whether it was supporting your right to try natural, non-traditional health remedies, speaking out against putting healthy people under house arrest, sponsoring legislation to provide for the expungement of criminal records in certain cases, my strong belief in defending individual liberty has guided my actions. It still does today, even in a time when these seemingly old-fashioned notions have lost favor with the coastal elites.

Janice McGeachin: Defending state means rejecting enhanced federal Medicaid

Defending our state means making difficult decisions when the federal government tries to bribe us into compliance. It means rejecting an enhanced federal Medicaid match rate when accepting it would mean we lose the right to manage our own Medicaid eligibility requirements. It means shredding the FEMA Covid agreement--because Idaho is mandated to grant federal access to our lands, hold the federal government harmless, and require compliance with unreasonable federal laws and executive orders.

Morgan Harper: Healthcare a human right; extend Medicare to every citizen

Universal Healthcare. Healthcare is a human right. But our system is failing Ohioans, 1 million of whom lost their healthcare during the pandemic. Giving power back to our communities means that no one dies or goes bankrupt because of medical treatment, and everyone can afford their prescription drugs. The best way to achieve universal healthcare is by extending Medicare, a proven program, to every citizen.

Morgan Harper: Defeat COVID with universal vaccinations

End the Pandemic. In order to rebuild our communities we need to put an end to deadly outbreaks with smart public policy. That means continued direct support to the millions of people who lost jobs, housing, and small businesses because of the pandemic. And that means working to make sure we defeat the coronavirus the way we defeated polio, mumps, and measles: universal vaccinations.

Kerry McQuisten: I am vehemently against vaccine passports

I am vehemently against vaccine passports, or anything else that segregates our people into two classes, one with more rights than the other. Vaccine passport technology is just a step away from modification into the equivalent of China's Social Credit System, and this is a line in the sand we cannot ever cross. As governor, I will promote individual medical freedoms. I would like to see a statewide ban of vaccine passports such as roughly half the other U.S. states have implemented.

Jeff Jackson: Sponsored and supported multiple bills to expand Medicaid

Jeff has been working for more accessible, and affordable health care for all North Carolinians since becoming a state senator in 2014. He has sponsored and supported multiple bills to expand Medicaid which is the single largest policy change that North Carolina can make to increase the quality of care and decrease the cost of health care across the state. Expanding Medicaid would help 500,000 North Carolinians access health care, create 40,000 jobs, and save 1,000 lives every year.

Katie Britt: Expand telehealth options and mental health resources

As a daughter of the Wiregrass, I am also especially passionate about rural health care. Since ObamaCare was enacted, 17 hospitals have closed in Alabama. We must close the health care gap that exists in our state, and part of that solution means closing the digital divide in Alabama by expanding telehealth options through increased access to high-speed broadband internet services. Our state currently ranks 47th in the nation in broadband connectivity, and that lack of access is negatively impacting health care.

There are over 200,000 of our citizens today with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders, and we must ensure every single Alabamian has access to the resources and care they need to thrive. One in five Americans experience mental illness in their lifetime, and it's time we eliminate the stigma associated with it. I will work every day to ensure no Alabamian is forgotten or slips through the cracks of our system.

Katie Britt: We must repeal and replace ObamaCare

We must repeal and replace Obamacare with a plan that protects preexisting conditions and patient rights. Health insurance continues to get less affordable by the day while health care costs continue to rise. I support commonsense, conservative reforms that will drive costs down, increase options and access, and align with a free market-based approach. I will work to lower prescription drug costs, foster competition among providers and ultimately expand affordable health care access for all.

Lucas Kunce: Health care is a human right, we need universal system

Right now, all the power in our health care system is in the hands of a few massive corporations.

Most Americans are now just one medical emergency away from disaster. Lucas lived that personally when his sister's heart surgeries led to his parents' bankruptcy. Lucas believes health care is a human right. We need a universal health care system that empowers everyday people, not corporations seeking profit. And that includes protecting the right to abortion.

Tom Udall: Protect Medicare & Medicaid to preserve retirement security

Tom believes that retirement security must be preserved. We need to protect Medicare for our seniors and Medicaid for the most vulnerable among us. Whether it's reimbursement rates through Medicare or closing the "doughnut hole" that made it harder for seniors to afford life-saving prescriptions, Tom always fights for New Mexico's seniors.

Abby Finkenauer: As state rep fought for high-quality healthcare for all

Abby channeled her family's tradition of public service by running for the Iowa House of Representatives when she was just 24 years old--and winning. While serving in Des Moines, Abby was proud to fight for working families like hers. She opposed massive corporate giveaways to out-of-state companies, fought to make high-quality healthcare available to all Iowans and supported high-quality education for all students.

Allen Glines: Support Affordable Care Act; develop universal healthcare

Allen Glines: Streamline process for accommodations for disabilities

Streamline process for individuals with disabilities to obtain reasonable accommodations and forbid discrimination during this process.

Assist individuals in filing for disability payments. Decrease the amount of paperwork needed to file a claim. Reduce the backlog of claims that are unprocessed. Provide a clear path towards appealing rejected claims.

Tom Nelson: We need real leaders who will take COVID seriously

I'm the County Executive for Outagamie, one of the worst-hit COVID counties in the nation. Local officials have been leading our country through the pandemic because Donald Trump and Ron Johnson have failed. I'm running for U.S. Senate because we need real leaders in Washington who will take COVID seriously. And if we can take on a pandemic, we can take on anything.

John Hoeven: For patient-centered health care with choice & competition

Our country faces considerable health challenges. We need to continue to work to improve access to quality, affordable health care. Unfortunately, health care costs have risen dramatically under Obamacare, with families facing increased premiums and higher deductibles, as well as limited health insurance options. We need patient-centered health care that provides individuals and families with greater choice and competition in order to lower costs.

Michael Crapo: Oppose Obamacare; government-run health care not the answer

I oppose President Obama's ill-conceived health care plan and am fighting for its repeal and replacement. I have co-sponsored and advocated for legislation to fully repeal Obamacare. As a two-time cancer survivor, I know that patients, families and doctors need to be free of excessive government interference so they maintain power over their personal healthcare choices. Obamacare wrongly takes power away from patients and hands it to the government. Government-run health care is not the answer.

Eric Schmitt: Son on autism spectrum; took on insurance companies to cover

Their son, Stephen was born with a rare genetic condition causing tumors on his organs. He also has epilepsy, is on the autism spectrum, and is non-verbal. Eric's son was his inspiration to run for office to be a voice for individuals like him and their families. One of Eric's early legislative victories was taking on insurance companies by leading a bipartisan effort to ensure Missouri families are covered when they need it the most - including therapies for autism.

Jim Carlin: Allow seniors to deduct cost of prescription and OTC drugs

Medicare should be allowed to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceuticals companies to bring drug prices down. The importation of safe drugs from Canada should be allowed. We need to fix Medicare Part D by placing a cap on out-of-pocket costs. Seniors should be allowed to fully deduct the cost of prescription drugs and over the counter medications.

Malcolm Kenyatta: Healthcare is not a privilege but a right

Healthcare is not a privilege but a right. Every Pennsylvanian deserves the right to have a healthcare plan that meets their needs: whether it be the treatment of a preexisting condition or in the unfortunate event of a health emergency. Pennsylvanians also should not be forced into deciding on having to spend their money on food or to buy their prescription medication, as so many folks are forced to do.
