Survey of 2021 Senate campaign websites: on Homeland Security

Marjorie K. Eastman: 10 years of military service included two combat deployments

Her ten years of post-9/11 military service include two combat deployments. She started out enlisted and received the rare honor of being awarded a direct commission within her first two years of service. She was ranked the #1 Military Intelligence Company Commander in Eastern Afghanistan for the deployment cycle of 2009-2010, awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service as a combat commander and received the Combat Action Badge.

Foreign adversaries are determined to exploit America's security weaknesses and wreak havoc on our lives--and North Carolina needs serious, qualified leaders who have already defended our country to lead the fight for security. North Carolina was hit harder than any other state by the recent cyberattack against Colonial Pipeline which left 71% of our gas stations empty for a week. Marjorie knows from her hard-earned experience in national security that the attack was what we call a rehearsal.

Jake Bequette: Serving in Army was bigger privilege than being in NFL

While playing in the NFL was the opportunity of a lifetime, to Jake, the bigger privilege was serving in the United States Army. In 2017, Jake joined the service and was commissioned as an Infantry Lieutenant. He graduated from the U.S. Army Ranger School and was deployed to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division.

Raphael Warnock: Ensure our military remains the strongest in the world

Reverend Warnock understands the importance for a strong national defense. He will work across the aisle to ensure that America's military remains the strongest in the world and keeps our country and its people safe. To stay strong at home, we must properly man, train, and equip the Armed Forces and Coast Guard.

He is committed to improving the functionality and efficiency of the VA, especially those facilities here in Georgia. He understands the evolving health care needs of today's veterans, such as behavioral health and issues arising from PTSD, MST, TBI. Reverend Warnock is committed to strengthening the use of telehealth, which is direly needed for Georgia's veterans who live in rural communities where health care access has declined.

Tammy Duckworth: Support troops; root out waste in Defense Department

As a former Army officer, she understands the security challenges our nation must contend with and the risks our Armed Forces face. As a Senator, she is committed to ensuring American troops have the equipment and technology they need to keep our nation safe, and to supporting policies that improve their quality of life. She is also committed to rooting out waste within the Department of Defense and opposing harmful policies that discriminate against or dishonor our nation's warriors.

Haneefah Khaaliq: Support Patriot Act while protecting civil liberties

Support the USA Patriot Act in its effort to provide tools to law enforcement and intelligence agencies to combat terrorism while preserving the civil liberties of Americans. The information sought must be relevant, warrant-based, and material to an ongoing investigation otherwise I believe it constitutes an illegal search.

There is no federal criminal statute that establishes criminal penalties solely for "domestic terrorism." Domestic terrorism should not only be clearly defined but made a federal crime for the purposes of prevention.

Haneefah Khaaliq: Repurpose nuclear weapons to be used against meteors

Introducing and supporting legislation that repurposes the use of nuclear weapons and power for the protection of humans worldwide instead of for our destruction. Nuclear weapons should only be built and used to protect the U.S. and generally speaking, the world from meteors and/or other extraterrestrial threats. It may sound like something out of a science fiction movie or book, but the threat of meteors destroying an entire U.S. state is real.

Haneefah Khaaliq: Support boosted funding to modernize military

Work in support of a high-quality and modernized military force along with a focus on enlarging our military capacity. To that end, our military force must tap into nanomaterials (used for making things stronger), artificial intelligence, high-powered drones, hypersonic missiles, reusable rockets and ammunition, unmanned submarines, etc. I am more than prepared to support a package that boosts military funding for these purposes because America's safety comes first.

Gary Black: Protect, strengthen Georgia 13 military installations

As the son of an Army veteran, I've seen Georgia's proud military tradition firsthand for my entire life. Our state is home to 13 military installations, each of which plays a vital role in their communities and to the overall mission of our entire military. I'll be a trusted partner to each of these installations, working every day to protect and strengthen their role in keeping our country safe.

JD Vance: Stop using America's military as social justice side project

Importantly, American political leaders should stop using America's military as a social justice side project. Our troops don't need to focus on diversity or equity or any other progressive buzzword; they need to focus on fighting and winning America's wars.

Matt Dolan: Set aside political correctness to keep America safe

Ohio is home to one of the largest populations of U.S. military veterans in America. These men and women represent the best of America. Those who have selflessly answered their nation's call should not be forced to sleep on the streets or struggle to access the benefits and healthcare they earned. I will be a tireless advocate for upholding America's promise to those who have worn the uniform.

The most important duty of our next U.S. Senator will be protecting the nation. We need leaders in Congress who set aside political correctness to keep America safe. This begins with being clear about the nature of present threats and preparing for the future in a way that funds our military and leverages the full breadth of American power to fortify alliances and defend vital interests at home and abroad.

Valerie McCray: Has evaluated thousands of military suffering from PTSD

Dr. McCray accepts every opportunity to serve our men and women of the military. She has evaluated thousands of men and women of our military suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain injuries from the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf War, and Vietnam. She works to streamline the disability eligibility process so that our soldiers can reassemble their lives as much as possible.

Jessica Taylor: Alabama plays a critical role in the defense of our nation

Alabama plays a critical role in the defense of our nation. And our state supports tens of thousands of jobs. Washington often plays lip service with enacting conservative reforms that would see an end to bloated VA health programs and allow veterans and their families to use the doctors and medical services they know and trust. The sacrifices our veterans make are vital to ensuring peace and freedom throughout the world and I will make sure Washington never leaves a soldier or veteran behind.

Jason Beebe: Reagan said peace through strength: still true today

Peace through strength is what Reagan said, and it holds true today. We must stay strong against our enemies and perceived enemies such as China, Russia, Iran, and many others. I served in Iraq and still have friends there who I can trust. We do need some military reforms that will make us safer in the future. When I volunteered to serve it was out of duty to my country, but a lot has changed since then. We need to compete for young people to join the military again.

Tiffany Smiley: Don't burden veteran families with an uncertain future

In April of 2005, Tiffany learned Scotty, while serving America in Iraq, had been severely wounded by a suicide bomber, causing him to fall into a coma and permanently lose sight in both of his eyes. Tiffany was determined that he would never become just another number in the unreliable VA system. To this day, Tiffany and Scotty have made fighting to ensure every veteran gets the benefits and care they deserve one of their highest priorities.

I took on the Veterans Administration because they were failing my family, and I won because losing was not an option. But my family's story of victory over federal bureaucrats is the exception, rather than the rule. Far too many desperate veteran families face an uncertain future that is filled with mountains of paperwork and excuses. It makes absolutely no sense to burden families who have given so much with so little support from the government they swore an oath to defend.

Jim Lamon: Congress should stay out of micro-managing the military

As a veteran, I recognize the challenges our military men and women face. We must ensure they are trained and equipped to combat threats from our foreign enemies, especially the Communist Chinese Party. Congress should stay out of micro-managing the military and stop the social experiments with our fighting forces. I will vote to focus our military might on protecting the homeland, putting a stop to the endless foreign wars that have cost us far too many American lives and tax dollars.

Katie Britt: Defend and grow military, defense, and VA

For me, supporting our military and extended defense community has always been personal. Our incredible men and women in uniform are vitally important to American safety, freedom and prosperity, as well as global stability. Another integral part of our military's success are the contractors and suppliers who support our defense and intelligence communities. I will lead the charge to defend, grow and protect our existing military and defense sector footprints in Alabama.

In addition to resolutely supporting our troops, I am a staunch champion of ensuring we treat our veterans like the heroes they are, even when their days of active service are long-gone. The VA, like all governmental bureaucracies, needs leaders with business backgrounds leading the charge to cut red tape, streamline staff and services, and end the corruption. I will relentlessly work to push for reforms that see the VA operating at the speed of business--not government.

Lucas Kunce: Expand services to veterans including mental health

As a former Marine Corps officer, Lucas knows how important it is that our country keeps its promises to the brave American veterans who have put their lives on the line so others didn't have to. In the U.S. Senate, he'll work to expand access to mental health services for veterans of all ages, adapt job training opportunities to the workplaces of the future, and provide support to the nearly 500 Missouri veterans experiencing homelessness.

Tom Udall: Co-wrote 21st Century G.I. Bill to help returning veterans

The first amendment Tom passed as a U.S. Senator was to expand tax incentives for employers who hire veterans who recently returned home from Iraq or Afghanistan. Tom co-wrote the 21st Century G.I. Bill, which has helped thousands of returning veterans continue their education, earn a college degree and build new career opportunities.

Blake Masters: Ensure our military is world's most lethal fighting force

We also need to ensure that our military remains the world's most lethal fighting force, even if it means standing up to the bureaucratic National Security State and generals who would prioritize social issues like transgenderism in the enlisted ranks over actually winning wars.

Vicky Hartzler: Peace is best kept through strength

With two of America's most important military bases in her district, Vicky is the Ranking Member on the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee. In this role she is responsible for ensuring the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, National Guard, and Reserves have the tactical assets and equipment they need to protect themselves and our country. Vicky knows peace is best kept through strength. She has been a tireless fighter for policies that prioritize keeping our promises to our veteran heroes.

Vicky Hartzler: Saving F-15 and F-18 fighter jets created jobs in Missouri

When two of America's most trusted weapons to defend our freedoms were threatened with cuts, I led the fight supporting the military's investment in F-15 and F-18 fighter jets. Now our warfighters have the most modern equipment, and since they are built in St. Louis, we created thousands of high skill, high paying jobs in Missouri.

John Hoeven: Provide military with best equipment, facilities, support

The U.S. faces no shortage of national security concerns including challenges from Russia and China and the threat of terrorism. We have to meet these challenges head-on, and that means marshaling all elements of our nation's power to keep Americans safe. North Dakota plays a critical role in our national defense thanks to its top-notch military installations and our men and women in uniform. I am proud to advocate on behalf of North Dakota's military members and their critical missions.

The cornerstone of U.S. security and the foundation for a peaceful future is a strong U.S. military. We can never take for granted the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. We must provide them with the best equipment, facilities, and support possible so they can continue to defend our freedoms. Additionally, as our brave men and women leave military service, we must ensure they receive the health care, benefits, and recognition they have earned.

James Lankford: National security government's number one priority

National security should be the federal government's number one priority. We should deal with waste in all areas of government, including the military. But, the budget should not drive military strategy, strategy should drive the budget. Trump prioritized defense and ensured members of the military have the resources needed to fulfill their duties. James has consistently voted to support the President's strategic efforts, including the largest military pay raise in a decade.

Veterans should have the freedom to choose their health provider. When our armed forces risk their lives in service, we should provide our gratitude and the best possible care for them. James voted for the 2018 Mission Act to streamline veteran health care, introduced legislation for greater VA oversight and reforms to veterans' benefits. James will continue to fight for our Military and provide first class support to our Veterans!

Everett Stern: Corruption of government is a National Security threat

Stern believes that corruption at all levels undermines the people's faith in our US system of government. Corruption is a National Security threat, it weakens our influence overseas and leads to inevitable economic decline. With Everett Stern in Washington the citizens of this country have a tried-and-true American Patriot willing to walk the talk.

Michael Crapo: Strong advocate for Idaho's Air Force Base & National Guard

Idaho is home to the 366th Fighter Wing and some of the Air Force's most impressive assets and capabilities. All our military branches face increasing budget pressures and strain. As the Air Force deals with how to handle budget cuts and manage necessary force structure changes, I will continue to be a strong advocate for Mountain Home Air Force Base and the Idaho National Guard. I will continue to advocate for the A-10 and future flying missions at Gowen Field.

Our veterans risked everything to protect our freedom. That's why I fight every day to ensure that our veterans receive the benefits they earned. They should never face obstacles to receiving the care or benefits. I am working to improve the Veterans Administration and ensure our veterans receive the quality health care they deserve. I introduced and co-sponsored legislation to improve veterans benefits and health programs at the VA.

Lucas Kunce: Money spent on Iraq & Afghanistan should've been spent here

When I came back from Iraq, the first house I'd ever lived in was bulldozed down, and it's now an empty lot. When I came back from Afghanistan, the house I lived in when I joined the Marine Corps was vacant and starting to fall apart. The whole time my buddies and I were risking our lives and our country was spending trillions of dollars trying to build up these other countries we should have been spending our money, blood, and sweat on towns like St. Joe, St. Louis, and Jefferson City.

Jim Carlin: We must maintain military superiority over China

By some measures China has already become the world's largest economy. By all measures it has the world's largest Navy. It provokes our trading partners and threatens our allies. In the face of this threat, we must maintain our military superiority, and rid American soil of Chinese spies who are stealing our technology. In addition, we must form a NATO like pact with freedom loving nations which regards a violation of trade rules on one country an assault on all countries.
