On Abortion: Life begins at conception; oppose taxpayer funded abortions

God is the author of life. Life begins at conception. I have and will continue doing all in my power to protect it. I led the effort in the Iowa State Senate to pass the heartbeat bill, oppose taxpayer funded abortions, pledge to put an end to the brutal practice of partial birth abortion, and will remain in the U.S. Senate the reliable voice I have been for the unborn in the Iowa State Senate.

On Education: Too many children being indoctrinated to hate America

Too many of our children are trapped in failing schools. Too many of our children are being indoctrinated to hate America, hate our history and hate our culture. We need to give them a choice: vouchers to attend a charter school, a private school, or a public school with higher standards--schools that teach the truth of our history and graduate kids properly schooled in math, science and English.

On Energy & Oil: Farmers deserve to profit from wind, biomass, solar panels

During the next 40 years, the world will be weaning itself from dependence on fossil fuels, and increasing its reliance on renewable energy technologies. Farmers deserve to profit through the sale of electricity generated by wind, the sale of biomass energy produced by plants and organic waste, and incentives to install solar panels to help cut electricity and heating costs.

On Gun Control: Will never back down in fight to preserve Second Amendment

Our Founding Fathers enshrined the second amendment into the Constitution and it means what it says; that the "right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." The language is clear and absolute. I am a gun owner, a proud member of the NRA, and will never back down in the fight to preserve second amendment for all law-abiding Americans.

On Health Care: Allow seniors to deduct cost of prescription and OTC drugs

Medicare should be allowed to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceuticals companies to bring drug prices down. The importation of safe drugs from Canada should be allowed. We need to fix Medicare Part D by placing a cap on out-of-pocket costs. Seniors should be allowed to fully deduct the cost of prescription drugs and over the counter medications.

On Homeland Security: We must maintain military superiority over China

By some measures China has already become the world's largest economy. By all measures it has the world's largest Navy. It provokes our trading partners and threatens our allies. In the face of this threat, we must maintain our military superiority, and rid American soil of Chinese spies who are stealing our technology. In addition, we must form a NATO like pact with freedom loving nations which regards a violation of trade rules on one country an assault on all countries.

On Immigration: Secure borders before discussing eligibility for citizenship

I stand with those who believe we must secure our borders. I stand with those who say we must enforce our visa laws, for half of the undocumented immigrants come to America on an airplane.

I stand with those who believe our sovereign nation has the right, and an obligation to create an immigration policy that can be enforced. Once we have done these things we can sit down and discuss who should be allowed to come in as a guest worker, and who is eligible to be put on a path to citizenship.

On Principles & Values: Most important issue: preserving freedom for next generation

Freedom isn't free. In this campaign for the United States Senate, I will speak for Americans who cherish their freedoms, and want a Senator who will actually fight to keep them, preserve them, protect them, advance them. The threats to our freedoms are no longer veiled. Many of us now wonder whether our children and our grandchildren will live free. More than any other single cause, none is more important than preserving freedom for the next generation.

On Social Security: Increase Cost-of-Living Adjustment to reflect rising prices

Social Security and Medicare are headed toward bankruptcy. Absent legislation to preserve it, the so-called trust funds will be depleted within 15 years, and millions of seniors will face cuts in their monthly benefits. The Social Security and Medicare Program must be made solvent and secure for the next generation. The Cost-of-Living Adjustment should be increased for current recipients to accurately reflect the rising prices of food, shelter, medicine and prescription drugs.

On Tax Reform: Tax relief for middle class, not Wall Street

Our tax code is an abomination of special interest tax breaks and loopholes purchased for Wall Street equity firms, banks, multinational corporations, and companies that export American jobs to foreign lands. The ones who need tax relief are the parents trying to raise a family, the struggling small business owner trying to survive, and middleclass Americans who can't afford health insurance or the cost of raising children.

On Tax Reform: Abolish the death tax on family farms

Our farmers must be allowed to make a living--trade agreements that increase the value of corn, soybeans, hogs and cattle, and the opportunity to profit from bio fuels, wind, solar and carbon credits. The time has come to abolish the death tax on family farms or we'll someday see the day when there are none left.

On Technology: Time to break up Big Tech & protect personal privacy

The time has come to do with Big Tech what we once did with Standard Oil, the Railroad barons, ATT, IBM and Microsoft. Break them up into smaller pieces. Make it possible for smaller companies and startups to compete. Reign in their practice of gobbling up competitors and stifling competition. Write a new set of laws that protect the privacy of those who voice their opinion, and the right to tell social media monopolies that their personal data is not to be collected, sold or used.

On Technology: Vital that farmers have access to 5G technology

As farms have increased their dependence on technology to cut costs and operate more efficiently, it is vital the Iowa's farmers have access to emerging 5G technology. 5G will revolutionize Iowa agriculture, allowing farmers to constantly monitor field conditions, track and feed livestock, pilot drones and self-driving tractors.

On Welfare & Poverty: Goal of welfare system should be keeping families together

Our welfare system needs to be rethought and turned upside down. It penalizes parents who stay together. It fails to lift people out of poverty. It snares too many into a cycle of dependence too often lasts for generations. The goal of welfare and public assistance should be to keep families together, quickly get the needy to back on their feet and to a place where they are no longer dependent on the government for help.
