2021 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Local Issues

Chris Sununu: Expand Rainy Day Fund to up to 10% of revenue

One thing always bothered me about our Rainy Day Fund. It has a cap. A cap on our savings account frankly never made sense to me. Why would you so tightly limit responsible savings and long-term planning? Under this budget, I'm proposing expanding our Rainy Day account to up to 10% of revenue raised over a given biennium, double what we can save. It would better allow the State to plan for the long-term and be ready to weather the next storm, avoiding tax increases and economic downturns.

Kevin Stitt: Must address state sovereignty over tribal land & peoples

The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma questions the sovereignty of the state as we've known it since 1907. I've invited the leaders of Oklahoma's sovereign tribes to join together and work with the State of Oklahoma. Together, we must create the certainty, fairness and the unity we've enjoyed since 1907. It is critical -- while embracing the tribal heritage of many Oklahomans -- that we don't lose sight of the fact that we are all Oklahomans.

Tate Reeves: Invest in emergency management to prepare for fire seasons

There is much work left to do in order to have a full recovery. At the same time, we must continue to prepare our communities and our landscapes for these more challenging fire seasons. That starts with creating fire-adapted communities to protect our people and the houses they live in. We will invest in the Office of Emergency Management to help communities create response plans and fire evacuation routes, and bolster smoke shelter programs at the Oregon Health Authority.
