2022 AL Governor's race: on Abortion

Malika Sanders-Fortier: I believe in human rights of unborn children and of women

Sen. Malika Sanders-Fortier of Selma said abortion is a difficult issue in need of thoughtful debate. "I believe in the human rights of unborn children," Sanders-Fortier said. "And I believe in the human rights of women. I think what I would rather see, rather than a bill like this, is our state have a conversation that's not a political conversation about how do we protect both the rights of women and unborn babies. And I know to some people that is impossible. I just don't see it like that."

Tim James: Supports a human life amendment to the Constitution

We assert the inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life and support a human life amendment to the Constitution. We oppose the use of public funds to perform or promote abortion and strongly condemn any federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

We live in the year when Roe vs. Wade may well be overturned, and states will again have the right to abolish abortion, protecting the right of the unborn. But sadly, Americans United for Life ranks Alabama only #11 in passing state legislation to protect the life of the unborn. Alabama should lead the way, passing every legislation possible and implementing all policies to end the tragedy of abortion in our state.

Yolanda Flowers: Don't ban abortion but provide counseling for a real choice

Flowers said she hopes to provide counseling for mothers who are considering abortion and to establish more resources for people who carry babies to term but don't want to raise them. She said she does not believe that abortion should be illegal. "We don't need to ban abortion, but abortions need to be done safely," Flowers said. "I'm not trying to sway them, I'm not trying to change their minds, but just giving them information and informed choices so that they can make a real choice."
