Ron Hanks in 2022 CO Senate race

On Abortion: Pro-life, but would allow exceptions for rape and incest

In a 2010 survey, Hanks wrote: "I am pro-life, but I will hold open a measured and narrow window for medical experts--I am not one--to provide expertise and guidance in specific situations. We should not consider abortion a form of birth control without consequences, nor advocate it as such to our children. We must promote adoption, and remove the shame from carrying a child to term. No federal funding, and this issue would be better addressed by the individual states."

According to the VoteSmart website, Hanks responded [to their] survey "directly by taking the Political Courage Test. "Hanks (who ran under his birth name, Loren) ran for Congress in District 1, located in Northern California. Hanks answered "yes" to the following questions, and in an email to Colorado Politics he affirmed the positions in the survey and added context on others. "My answers from that survey remain valid and are my positions to this day," he said.

On Budget & Economy: At all levels government is too big and spends too much

His passion for public service began in the mid-1970's as he listened to Ronald Reagan articulate the differences between conservative and leftist policies. Just like Reagan, Ron Hanks understands that at all levels, government is too big and spends too much, and that protecting personal liberty should be the main goal of any elected official.

On Civil Rights: Slavery 3/5 compromise didn't impugn anyone's humanity

Rep. Ron Hanks made a joke about lynching on the Colorado House floor before launching into a defense of the three-fifths compromise of 1787, which counted Black slaves in the U.S. as less than whole people. Hanks described the three-fifths compromise as "not impugning anybody's humanity" but rather being a product of political negotiation. After being hissed at by Democrats, Hanks said he was surprised anyone could see his comments as controversial.

On Education: I'm fighting for education tax credits for parents

On Foreign Policy: Biden is an agent under the influence of a foreign power

Many have concluded you are unfit for the office. Many believe you were fraudulently elected. I will go further and declare my belief you are a fraudulently installed agent under the influence of a foreign power. Whether or not you fully comprehend your situation, Americans clearly recognize those pulling your strings oppose American greatness, leadership, and sovereignty. As Americans come to realize your incompetence, a growing majority also recognizes you were not fairly elected.

On Government Reform: Our elections NOT secure; restore election integrity

Our Elections are NOT secure. The electronic systems we use--such as Dominion--are NOT SECURE in any national security sense of the definition. That equipment is built in China, by foreign workers, with wireless equipment installed per the build sheet of that equipment, with computer chips that are uncertifiable. We must restore Election Integrity.

Without The People's full trust and confidence in the validity of our elections, all public policy decisions are irrelevant because they do not have 'the consent of the governed.' Secure, open, and fair elections must be the backbone of our elections if our country is to survive.

On Health Care: Federal government lies about experimental COVID vaccine

You work to implement vaccine mandates on the country, while the federal government lies about the efficacy of the experimental vaccine, changes reporting guidelines, CDC definitions, and statistics on side-effects. Your policies are bent on control and dominion over the public, while federal agencies lie to keep people ignorant and compliant. This is no longer a government serving the people. It is an entity built for control over the masses by the power-elite.

On Immigration: Won't let nation fall into ruin, must re-secure our borders

Our Republic is under GRAVE threat. Our federal government is not responding to these threats. In some cases, it IS the threat. Today, I am fighting at the state level, as a state representative. Now, I am taking our fight to the US Senate, and I will give it everything I have. I simply will not watch this nation fall into ruin. We must re-secure our borders. We must restore our energy independence. We must restore our manufacturing capabilities within the United States.

Hanks admitted he had gone to Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 to participate in the "Stop the Steal" rally, though he denied participating in the storming of the U.S. Capitol. He also claimed those who stormed the Capitol were antifa, although there has been no evidence that anyone other than Trump supporters took part in the insurrection. [On political philosophy]: "As my proven conservative record in the Colorado Legislature shows, I will fight--front and center--for limited government, lower taxes, and personal liberties," he states. I will fight for regular Coloradans to restore balance and stop out-of-control politicians in Denver and Washington, D.C."

As for the recent news that Sweden and Finland are seeking to join NATO Hanks took a more measured approach, saying the U.S. should urge the Nordic countries not to pursue membership until the war in Ukraine is resolved. He said Russia's invasion is "100 percent Biden's fault" and warned, "At some point, (Putin) can extract great pain against the United States."
