2022 FL Governor's race: on Budget & Economy

Annette Taddeo: Budget should help struggling families, not make it harder

Taddeo laid out her criticisms of the budget. "This session was a generational opportunity for real change, to focus not only on meeting the needs of today for families who are struggling, but to set up Florida to be a global economic leader for generations to come. Instead, this legislature fiddled at the knee of a governor whose eyes are solely focused on winning Republican primary voters for the Presidency, all while making hard times harder for the families who need help the most."

Brian Moore: Stimulus better than market-led recovery

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Stimulus better than market-led recovery"?

A: Strongly support this approach.ÿ America was able to remove 3-5 million Americans from poverty just by providing families with extra stimulus incomes over the last 12 to 18 months due to the pandemic.ÿ That has ended, and 3.5 million children have slid back into the level of poverty already.ÿ The market-led recovery approach is based on profit, greed, survival of the fittest (the privileged few) at the expense of the common good.ÿ It has run its course and proven to not be effective nor successful.

Nikki Fried: We need to be bringing in new industries to our state

Much of Florida's revenue is generated from sales tax fueled by the tourism and hospitality industries. That ties the state, Fried said, to creating and supporting minimum wage positions. She believed Florida needed to diversify. "That isn't going to bring everybody up," Fried said. "We need to be working on bringing in Fortune 500 companies. We need to be bringing in new industries to our state."
