2022 FL Governor's race: on Homeland Security

Annette Taddeo: Opposes DeSantis plan to have state military force

DeSantis proposed reestablishing the Florida State Guard that would be under his command.

DeSantis said this civilian force would "not be encumbered by the federal government," adding that it would allow him "the flexibility and the ability needed to respond to events in our state in the most effective way possible." Taddeo called DeSantis a "[w]annabe dictator trying to make his move for his own vigilante militia."

Brian Moore: Oppose expanding the military

Q: Would you expand the military"?

A: Strongly oppose.ÿ The military-industrial complex is alive and kicking, to the loss of financial and safe conditions hurting the country, and threatening more worldwide violence and wars. We are a behemoth in a strong defense, with too many military bases and involvements worldwide.ÿ We need to foster democracy and peace, not threaten opponents or our enemies with physical threats and intimidating presence around the world.ÿ Our motives are based on self interests and economic gain at others expense.ÿ More art, culture, social, athletic and peaceful exchanges need to be fostered and financed by our federal government. ÿ We should also redirect our defense and space industries to explore new and improved solutions for our country, our citizens and our world in the areas of health, art, culture, education, music, science, etc.ÿ We also need to reduce our nuclear stockpiles and ballistic missiles worldwide with all nations in possession of such weapons.
