Gubernatorial campaign websites: on Health Care

Bob Stefanowski: Expand access to private healthcare for veterans

I will work with federal partners to expand access to private healthcare. This will allow Veterans to seek healthcare outside of the VA hospital system in underserved areas. In rural areas, this program saves hours of time spent traveling for basic medical services. Today's Veterans continue to struggle with PTSD and other mental health issues which have become worse with the pandemic. We owe it to these heroes to create access to healthcare that is as stress-free and hassle-free as possible.

Chase LaPorte: Freedom of choice for personal healthcare choices

The recent pandemic has impacted all of us, and personal healthcare choices have come under attack. In America, we take freedom of choice seriously; and that extends to freedom in personal healthcare choices. No government or organization has the right to regulate or direct your medical care or the care of your children.

Chris Jones: Help to make prescription drugs more affordable

Arkansas has an aging population. Chris Jones plans to help families find the resources they need to care for their loved ones and to ensure high standards of care and excellent staffing at nursing homes. Arkansas can do more to build resources for mental healthcare in our state, and to attract mental health professionals to underserved communities. Everyone deserves access to the medicine they need to live a healthy life. Chris Jones plans to help to make prescription drugs more affordable.

Christine Drazan: Repeal COVID-19 mask and vaccine mandates

I will end Governor Brown's state of emergency declaration and repeal her heavy-handed mandates on Day One. We will be done with mask mandates. We will be done with vaccine mandates. Oregonians will get the information they need to determine for themselves and their own families how they want to approach the virus and make decisions that are personally best for them and their families.

Christopher Kurka: Vaccine/health mandates are unconstitutional, unconscionable

Vaccine/health mandates are both unconstitutional and unconscionable for a free people. It is the duty of government to protect the individual liberty of the people to make our own healthcare decisions.

Dan Cox: On day one I will end the vaccine and health mandates

[On COVID mandate]: "On day one of my administration as your next Governor, I will end the vaccine and health mandates and restore freedom by restoring the Constitution's protections to all the people of Maryland. And our Five-Point Contract for Maryland will be just the beginning of a new birth of prosperity for our Free State."

Deidre DeJear: Quality affordable healthcare, mental health imperative

Access to quality affordable healthcare and mental health services is imperative. Unfortunately it is out of reach for too many, including our rural communities. The COVID-19 Pandemic has unveiled the inadequacies in Iowa's healthcare systems; now more than ever we must make sure our healthcare system meets the needs of Iowans today and improves the future of health and wellness for every Iowan and healthcare practitioner.

Doug Gansler: Operate 10 new regional behavioral centers across the state

Take advantage of our multi-billion surplus and our state's AAA credit rating to finance, build and operate 10 new regional behavioral centers across the State of Maryland, each to be staffed with psychiatrists, social workers and therapists, to be funded by a combination of federal and state dollars.

Garrett Soldano: Opposes vaccine mandate as unconstitutional, coercive

Whitmer is leaving Michigan workers and business owners defenseless against President Biden's unconstitutional vaccine mandate. The same frontline workers she praised last year are having their livelihood threatening for refusing to be coerced into taking a vaccine, regardless of whether they have natural immunity. It's insane.

"I will restore the liberties that Gretchen Whitmer took from us. No more mandates. No more restrictions. And NO VACCINE PASSPORTS! I will follow the lead of conservative leaders like Governor Ron DeSantis and push back against any politician, bureaucrat or woke corporation attempting to enforce unconstitutional mandates on our students, workers and citizens."

Jamie R. Smith: Expanding Medicaid crucial to our rural communities

Expanding Medicaid in South Dakota is crucial for protecting our rural communities and essential workers. It will allow thousands to stay insured, get access to medication, and see a doctor.

Jason Martin: Led fight for Tennessee's healthcare in rural communities

During Dr. Martin's time at Nashville General it became quickly apparent to him that while families in Tennessee are working hard, our elected officials are working harder against them. After twelve rural hospitals closed in Tennessee, Dr. Martin went on to lead the fight for Tennessee's healthcare in our rural communities.

We have already paid our fair share to fund Medicaid but we have a governor who refuses to send that money back to our communities. Medicaid expansion is not just something we have already paid for but is necessary to make sure our state can thrive. We could cover as many as 400,000 more working Tennesseans by fully participating in the program. Getting back our hard earned Medicaid dollars would help reestablish some of our many closed hospitals, emergency rooms and clinics.

Josh Green: Access to treatment for homeless addicts & mentally ill

In Hawaii we should never turn our backs on anyone or leave anyone behind. That means those struggling with addiction or mental illness should have access to treatment and recovery.

We will work to implement clear and effective protocols that police, social workers, and healthcare professionals can follow every time someone lands on the street, allowing us to intervene more quickly with help and solutions when someone becomes homeless.

Julian Bell: Obtain efficiencies through single payer or equivalent

Better care for more people, for less money: There are efficiencies that can be obtained with a single payer system or equivalent. We need to take advantage of these opportunities for cost savings for people, organizations, and the state of Oregon. We must also make childcare more affordable.

Kai Kahele: Bring physicians and services to underserved rural Hawai'i

As a resident of Hawai'i Island, Kai understands the unique healthcare challenges that our rural communities face. In Hawai'i, our rate of adult diabetes and healthcare expenses per capita have doubled in the last 20 years while we concurrently face a physician-shortage that has worsened over the last decade. Kai sees this critical shortage and will actively work to bring physicians and services to Hawai'i in order to provide our community with critical high-quality care.

Katie Hobbs: Expanded Medicaid, providing healthcare for 100,000s

In 2012, she arrived in the State Senate. And in 2014, she became the Senate Minority Leader. Katie fought for people all across the state, expanding Medicaid and providing healthcare for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans. She worked to secure the rights of victims of sexual and domestic violence. And she worked diligently and with integrity to provide new opportunities in education and job training, and to protect the voting rights of all the people of Arizona.

Katie Hobbs: Reduce maternal mortality rate, extend Medicaid coverage

For Indigenous women, the maternal mortality rate was four times that of white women. And for Black, Asian and Pacific Islander women, maternal mortality was more than double the rate of white women. A key component of Katie's agenda will be to reduce maternal mortality. The Administration will also improve AHCCCS care for pregnant and postpartum women by extending Medicaid coverage from 60 days to 12 months postpartum.

Kerry McQuisten: Vaccine passports are like China's Social Credit System

I am vehemently against vaccine passports, or anything else that segregates our people into two classes, one with more rights than the other. Vaccine passport technology is just a step away from modification into the equivalent of China's Social Credit System, and this is a line in the sand we cannot ever cross. Pitting businesses and customers against each other by requiring vaccine card checks is wrong on every level. This isn't what America or Oregon should look like. As governor, I will promote individual medical freedoms. I would like to see a statewide ban of vaccine passports such as roughly half the other US states have implemented.

[OTI Note: China's Social Credit System is a national credit rating system introduced in 2011 as a standardized system to establish trustworthiness in business, government, social, and judiciary public trust, analogous to the individual credit rating systems such as Equifax in the US. Critics claim it infringes on rights to privacy and reputation.]

Kirk Caldwell: Invest much more in mental health, drug treatment programs

The roots of homelessness lie in housing affordability, mental health, and substance abuse. There are no fast or easy answers to any of those. We must invest more, much more, in community mental health and drug treatment programs. Although we may never eliminate homelessness in a free society such as ours, we need leadership to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring.

Mia McLeod: Join 39 other states in expanding Medicaid

As Governor, I will immediately join 39 other states in expanding Medicaid, which will increase healthcare coverage and improve healthcare access for approximately 200,000 South Carolinians who are currently being denied care, simply because they live in the Palmetto State.

Michelle Benson: Opposes government run health care

Patient Centered Healthcare: A truly competitive health care market is beneficial to all Minnesotans. Competition and innovation are key to making health care more accessible and affordable. Government-run one-size-fits-all health care puts bureaucrats, not patients, at the center of health care. You should be in control of your health care and your children's health care. Any medical procedure requires your voluntary, informed consent.

Your Data. Your Privacy. Your Rights.

Government data should be public and transparent. Your personal data is private and protected. Private medical information and health status are your most private data and must be protected. Let's stand up together against big government and big tech who both want our private data.

Mike Murphy: Protect pre-existing conditions; more pricing transparency

Mike will always support protecting individuals with pre-existing conditions, especially those affected by COVID-19. No matter what comes of the Affordable Care Act, Mike will always fight to ensure those who need health coverage will receive care.

Price transparency, in addition to access to information about quality, empowers patients to shop for the most effective, lowest-cost health care available. It also drives prices down as health care providers compete for market share. The promise of cost control through consumer empowerment has made transparency an objective among legislatures.

MinnesotaCare & Medical Assistance programs must be continuously monitored. Mike believes our healthcare experts & legislators need to re-evaluate income requirements to join these programs. Due to high costs, most small businesses cannot afford to offer their employees health insurance. Mike proposes expanding these programs to small businesses and sole proprietors who cannot provide healthcare coverage.

Rushern Baker: Implement a single-payer Medicare for All program

Healthcare is a human right and our system is broken. We believe the best solution is to implement a single-payer Medicare for All program in Maryland in which the state would provide high-quality care at affordable costs. We must also address the major provider shortage we're facing by ensuring nurses, physicians, and PAs are fairly compensated, treated with respect, and well-supplied with the resources they need to do their jobs.
Source: 2022 Maryland Governor campaign website RushernBaker.com Jun 24, 2022

Scott Jensen: Strongly opposes single payer healthcare for Minnesota

Single payer healthcare will not solve the health care problems in Minnesota and will damage patient-doctor relationships. It will foster apathy, increase low value services utilization, undermine commitment to service, compromise quality of care, increase waiting time, and reduce provider career satisfaction. Dr. Jensen strongly opposes single payer healthcare for Minnesota.

Sonia Chang-Diaz: Establish a single-payer "Medicare for All" system

We need to end the ever-increasing premiums, high deductibles and copays, and skyrocketing prescription drug prices that put health care out of reach for too many. That's why Sonia supports legislation to establish a single-payer "Medicare for All" system, following the lead of many countries around the world that have better health outcomes at a fraction of the cost.

Stacy Lee George: COVID: I am one of those non-vaccinated people

Response to Governor Ivey on the Covid-19 Vaccine: ?"I am one of those non-vaccinated people that Governor Ivey just scolded," George said in a statement. "Unlike Governor Ivey I respect everyone who gets the vaccine as well as those like me that choose not to get the vaccine for various reasons. A governor should never belittle the people that disagree with her."

Tim James: Stand against federal tyranny of vaccine mandates

We can never tolerate unconstitutional federal mandates, such as the attempt by the Biden Administration to force Alabama workers to take vaccines against their will, under the threat of losing their jobs and potentially being forced into poverty. Freedom and liberty must be preserved at all costs, and unfortunately, at times there is a price to pay if we stand against federal tyranny. Alabama must never tolerate any attempt by the federal government to become Alabama's puppet master.

Tobias Read: Strongly supports vaccine mandates by businesses, schools

He strongly supports vaccine mandates by local businesses, schools and governments that will help us move past this pandemic and strengthen our economic recovery. Our kids should have the freedom to go to school without the fear of getting sick--and without wearing masks. Our small business owners should have the freedom to open their stores and know that customers will feel safe coming back to eat, to shop and to work.

Tudor Dixon: COVID: opposes lockdowns and anti-Science mask mandates

Tudor Dixon opposes lockdowns and anti-Science mask mandates. She will pardon all business owners who were cited under Gretchen Whitmer's illegal lockdown policies. She will block mask mandates in schools. And she will launch investigations into Michigan's state government response to COVID to find out why Gretchen Whitmer ignored expert advice to keep COVID-positive patients out of nursing homes and to see who profited from the harsh lockdown policies.

Betsy Johnson: Expand mental health services, especially in schools

Oregon's mental health system ranks 50th in the nation. I will lead to fix that. As governor, I will ensure that Oregon secures access to some of the $8 billion in federal money available for mental health services, especially in our schools. We need more dedicated, trained counselors in schools empowered to take action when there are warning signs of trouble with a student.

Betsy Johnson: No to government take-over of the health care system

Democrats are right that health care should be accessible and affordable. Republicans are right that we must protect the role of the private sector in delivering care to ensure innovation, efficiency, and the unique relationship between providers and patients. I believe providing health care to those in need should be a collaborative partnership between government and the private sector. I do not support a government take-over of the health care system--from insurance to doctors or hospitals.

Helena Foulkes: Worked to boost insurance enrollment after passage of ACA

In 2014 as President of Retail, Helena led CVS's unprecedented decision to hold themselves accountable to their mission as a healthcare company and stop selling tobacco products. She also worked with the Obama administration to boost insurance enrollment after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, and later with the Raimondo administration to strengthen healthcare in Rhode Island.
