On Crime: Criminal justice reform would save millions in tax money

Idaho has the 13th highest incarceration rate in the nation, and prison spending is among the highest. Prison admissions data show that nonviolent offenders make up a significant proportion of Idahoans entering prison. Reforming the criminal justice system would save millions in taxpayer money. Expanded access to education would allow people to reenter society prepared and contribute to the economy. It's time to look at the current "hard on crime" stance and search for new solutions.

On Drugs: Legalize medical marijuana; decriminalize personal use

Someone close to me was very ill and was prescribed cannabis for their symptoms. Not only was it beneficial to them, but it also had fewer side effects than other medications and was MORE affordable. We have medical patients that need access to this medicine. It should be available for those who need it and have a doctor's prescription. Idaho farmers should be allowed to grow it.

It should be decriminalized and the punishment for personal possession should be the equivalent of a speeding ticket.

On Education: Idaho is suffering from its tight-fisted funding for schools

We need tuition-free technical schooling, apprenticeships, and other post-secondary education to expand access to education. It will provide Idahoans equal opportunity and reduce incarceration rates. It will enrich our community and make Idaho a greater place to live. Fully funded education is worth investing in because, with education, you get what you pay for, and Idaho is suffering from its tight-fisted funding for schools. Failure to pay for education is the same as paying for the crime.
