Vicky Cayetano in 2022 HI Governor's race

On Abortion: Pro-choice; and supports medically assisted death

Asked by a reporter about her past political affiliation, Cayetano said that the Republican Party is not the same party it was 25 years ago when she was a member. She said she is pro-choice, supports medically assisted death and a higher minimum wage, and that she believes climate change is real. Still, the Vicky for Cayetano banner does not emphasize her current party affiliation, using only a small "D" in a circle similar to a trademark or copyright symbol.

On Principles & Values: No problem too great that we can't overcome together

[On her personal history]: "I am not a career politician," said Vicky Cayetano. "I am an entrepreneur and a businessperson who is shaped by my belief that there is no problem too great that we can't overcome together. No problem too small that does not need to be heard, and no solution that could not be found if we are determined to find it and we are committed to act upon it."

On Health Care: Calls for vaccine mandate for restaurants, bars, gyms

She's hired experienced PR maven Lynne Waters to handle her media, which included issuing a press release last week in which Cayetano urged Ige to require vaccinations for customers of restaurants, bars, spas, gyms, performing arts and outdoor sporting events. One big upshot for Cayetano is she is the only woman of color in a race featuring two white guys running to lead the most ethnically diverse state in the nation.
