I have always fought for reproductive rights throughout my career in public service and, as Governor, I stand ready to continue that fight should the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade.

On Drugs: Legalize cannabis and expunge convictions

Legalize cannabis and expunge convictions:

Cannabis should be legal in the United States, and we will legalize it here. But we know the burden of cannabis convictions historically fell on Black Marylanders and we must right that wrong by expunging convictions and using the revenue from legalized cannabis to support investment in Black communities.

On Drugs: Drug use should be treated like a public health problem

Drug courts in every jurisdiction presenting alternatives to incarceration:

Drug use should be treated like a public health problem and not a problem of criminality, as we already know it is in white communities. The Gansler administration will create alternatives to incarceration for drug abuse throughout the state.

On Gun Control: Supported Maryland's handgun permitting law

A federal appeals court has upheld Maryland's handgun permitting law. Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler cheered the ruling, saying the state is "a safer place today because of its handgun conceal-and-carry permit laws."

"The idea is to make sure guns are in the hands of responsible people, and not just anybody who wants to tote a gun in public," Gansler said. "This was one of those cases where a middle ground was found."

On Homeland Security: Expand programs and housing for homeless veterans

Homelessness does not discriminate. But veterans face some unique challenges when it comes to finding safe and affordable housing. Returning from deployments abroad, they often confront the invisible wounds of war that directly correlate with homelessness. If we are ever going to eradicate veteran homelessness, we must expand programs and housing supervised by the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs.

We must make better efforts to connect our veterans with training, employment opportunities and all of the resources that Maryland can offer. We must help disabled veterans get hired, including through employer tax subsidies for disabled veterans. We will make it easier for veterans to put their talent to work by supporting veteran-owned small businesses and enacting hiring incentives for returning veterans.

On Jobs: Raising the minimum wage is a racial justice issue

Raise the minimum wage: Black Marylanders are more likely to work in jobs that pay the minimum wage. That means raising the minimum wage is a racial justice issue. With costs rising throughout the country, we must make sure we're keeping up.

On Tax Reform: Employer tax credits for businesses hiring military spouses

We will pass legislation that allows occupational licensing reciprocity and waivers for military spouses. We can trust our sister states enough to allow military spouses to rely on out of state licenses across industries, provided they do the same for us.
