Robin Ficker in 2022 MD Governor's race

On Budget & Economy: Improve transportation in congested parts of the state

He said he wants to improve transportation in congested parts of the state, including Montgomery County. "We're the largest jurisdiction, and I think having a governor from Montgomery County who's lived his whole life in Montgomery County will mean that maybe Montgomery County can be freed from transportation gridlock for once," he said.

On Education: We need to teach kids to love libraries, not raise taxes

I think the achievement gap is very important, and I've got some ideas on how to close the achievement gap that don't include increasing property taxes. I know that children who spend time in the library and read at an early age are going to be successes in life. The problem is that other kids aren't going into the library. We need to teach our kids to love to be in the library, to love to read, and if we do that, that achievement gap is going to be closed.

On Government Reform: 2016: Helped pass ballot measure for county term limits

Ficker sponsored a term-limits ballot measure in 2016 that limits the county executive and County Council members to three four-year terms. The measure passed with nearly 70% of the vote.

On Principles & Values: Was noted NBA heckler; they responded with "Ficker rule"

Robin Ficker is at the top of the list. For 13 years, he sat behind the guest bench in Washington and heckled everyone. Everyone, every game in the season. His exploits went so far that the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) moved his seats away from the opposition bench. Not only that, they enforced "the Ficker rule." His heckling became so problematic during time-outs that it became forbidden to do anything that would interfere with communication between players and coaches during a time-out.

On Tax Reform: Cut sales tax by two cents; give everyone a tax cut

Ficker declared that by cutting the sales tax by two cents, he will be giving $1.7 billion back to Marylanders. That will bring more businesses to the state, which will help offset the loss revenue stream, he said. New business brings in new residents and money for education, he said, adding, if elected, he would be "very business friendly." "My program is to give everyone a tax cut every day," he said.

On Tax Reform: Fought to limit property tax hikes to rate of inflation

Love him or hate him, Robin Ficker has spent nearly a year gathering 16,000 signatures in an effort to prevent property taxes from skyrocketing in Montgomery County. Ficker has convinced 16,000 residents to sign a charter amendment petition that would prevent the Montgomery Council from raising property taxes--during any given year--beyond the U.S. rate of inflation.

On Drugs: Supports legalizing cannabis; expunge past records

Q: Do you support legalizing cannabis possession and use in Maryland? If yes, what steps do you support to provide redress to those individuals and communities that were targeted by police and prosecutors in past years when attempting to enforce laws against the use and non-violent distribution of marijuana?

A: Yes. Expunge their records. I am a defense attorney, having completed 40,000+ cases
