On Education: Protect kids from critical race theory, trans ideology

Dixon ran as a proud conservative mother of four children who vows to stop what she considers the indoctrination of kids in school. She's promised to ensure school kids are protected from "anti-American critical race theory" and "trans ideology," a term used by some conservatives and religious organizations to describe the belief in gender dysmorphia.

On Government Reform: Supports claims that 2020 election was stolen

Dixon, along with other supporters of former President Donald Trump, has questioned the results of Michigan's election, despite a lack of evidence. Dixon wrote "Steal an election then hide behind calls for unity and leftists lap it up" in a Nov. 8 reply to a tweet from Trump. Dixon was the emcee at a May 1 rally outside the DeltaPlex in Walker where former state Sen. Patrick Colbeck and other speakers falsely claimed the election was stolen.

On Health Care: COVID: opposes lockdowns and anti-Science mask mandates

Tudor Dixon opposes lockdowns and anti-Science mask mandates. She will pardon all business owners who were cited under Gretchen Whitmer's illegal lockdown policies. She will block mask mandates in schools. And she will launch investigations into Michigan's state government response to COVID to find out why Gretchen Whitmer ignored expert advice to keep COVID-positive patients out of nursing homes and to see who profited from the harsh lockdown policies.

On Immigration: Housing migrant children supports criminal cartels

Dixon criticized Whitmer for allowing the federal government to temporarily house unaccompanied migrant children at a facility in Albion. Starr Commonwealth opened a shelter for children at the request of the federal government. Dixon blamed Whitmer for the arrangement and said it means she supports criminal cartels. "Gretchen Whitmer supports the abuse of children at our southern border," Dixon said.

On Principles & Values: Calls for liberating Michiganders from lockdowns

The other hopefuls, meanwhile, are working to assert themselves as plausible nominees largely by leaning into issues and ideas pushed by Trump and right-wing media figures. Tudor Dixon is a conservative news host on the same network that features former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who has made adherence to the stolen election lie a litmus test for GOP candidates. She channels Trump on her campaign website with a call for "liberating Michiganders from lockdowns."

On Principles & Values: Pro God, pro life, pro gun and pro freedom

Dixon regards herself as an optimist, "wife, mother and cancer survivor" who is "pro God, pro life, pro gun and pro freedom." Her campaign leads on a promise of "the mother of all comebacks" for Michigan.

On Principles & Values: Acted in low budget films as a hobby

As a hobby, Dixon says she was also an actress in films made by aspiring filmmakers in Kalamazoo. Between 2008 and 2012, she co-starred in a locally-filmed drama called "Lexibaby," played a teen "bopper" eaten by zombies in "Buddy BeBop vs the Living Dead" and was a leading vampire in a web series called "Transitions."

On Abortion: Proposal 3 is radical abortion rights like China & N.Korea

Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her Republican challenger Tudor Dixon clashed on abortion rights in a debate, as Whitmer backed a referendum on ballots this fall that would amend the state constitution to guarantee abortion rights. Dixon said that referendum, if approved by voters, "would be the most radical abortion law in the entire country. The only place that has something similar is China and North Korea."

Whitmer shot back: "None of what she said is true." The two were clashing over what's known as Proposal 3--a measure placed on the ballot after a petition drive seeking to amend the state's constitution to scrap Michigan's 1931 law banning abortion with no exceptions for cases of rape and incest. That law, which had long been dormant, was revived after the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade before a judge ruled the law unconstitutional in September.

On Civil Rights: No mandatory vaccines; no coronavirus lockdowns

Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signaled opposition to mandating coronavirus vaccines for children to attend school during Michigan's final gubernatorial debate. Whitmer was asked about new guidelines by the CDC urging children to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. "I do not support requiring the COVID vaccine for children," said Whitmer. "We made quick decisions to save lives and studies show we saved 1000s. I am proud of that."

Dixon has sought to make Whitmer's leadership throughout the pandemic a top issue in the contest. "Like many of you, I had a small business crushed [by coronavirus lockdowns]. Like many of you I lost a loved one," said Dixon. "Gretchen Whitmer doesn't want to be defined by her carelessness or dishonesty or her hypocrisy during that time."

Earlier this month, the CDC voted to add coronavirus inoculation to the Vaccines for Children Program. The inclusion does not make the shots mandatory for children but places it on a list of recommended vaccinations.

On Education: Office of Safe Schools to protect children from shootings

Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her Republican challenger Tudor Dixon clashed over how to protect children from school shootings, with Dixon arguing for more security at school buildings and Whitmer making the case for gun control measures.

Dixon said she wants armed security at schools, as well as a single entry point for school buildings. "We need an Office of Safe Schools, like states like Florida have, to make sure that this is a top priority," Dixon said.

"We've been trying that for 30 years. It's not working," Whitmer said. Instead, she said, Michigan needs to enact laws requiring background checks and secure storage, as well as "red flag" laws. "Ask yourself, who is going to keep your kids safe: The former prosecutor with plans, or a candidate with thoughts and prayers?" Whitmer said.

On Families & Children: Parents outraged about schoolbook describing how to have sex

Dixon sought to go on offense over local debates around what books are allowed in school libraries, saying that "parents are outraged" over what she characterized as "books describing how to have sex."

"If you have material in your school that is something you can't read to a child at a bus stop because you would be arrested because it is pornographic, then it should not be in a classroom," Dixon said.

Whitmer responded that Dixon was trying to "wedge communities against each other." She said, "It is dangerous and it is selfish. We need to bring down the temperature and solve the problem to make sure parents are involved and students feel comfortable and we're giving them a robust education."

Dixon responded: "We've received the answer now that she's not going to stand with parents on this issue."

And Whitmer shot back: "Do you really think books pose a greater danger to our kids than gun violence does? Mrs. Dixon is trying to distract us."

On Principles & Values: Recommended stealing 2020 election then "calling for unity"

Dixon falsely claimed at Republican primary debates that Trump was the legitimate 2020 winner in Michigan, where Biden actually defeated Trump by more than 154,000 votes, and that there was fraud sufficiently widespread to have swung the election to Biden.

In a reply Dixon tweeted to Trump in November 2020, she falsely wrote, "Steal an election then hide behind calls for unity and leftists lap it up."

Dixon has sometimes taken a somewhat softer line, complaining about the election without calling it stolen. She said in July that there was enough fraud "that we have to be very concerned," adding, "I don't think we can see enough of the evidence because we weren't able to look back and some of that is destroyed now." (It isn't clear what she was talking about.) Dixon dodged when asked if she thought the election was stolen, saying instead, "Well, it's certainly a concern to a lot of folks here in Michigan because of the way the election was handled by our secretary of state."
