Mike Murphy in 2022 MN Governor's race

On Abortion: All humans, including the unborn, have inalienable rights

All humans, including the unborn, have inalienable rights. These rights are granted to us by our creator, and no such person or persons should have the power to deprive another of their freedom, equality, dignity, justice, free will, and peace. In America, our liberties are preserved by the Constitution. As governor, Mike will take action to protect the rights and freedoms of all persons in Minnesota.

On Budget & Economy: Incentivize developers to build quality senior housing

Our society has an obligation to provide seniors in need with safe and affordable communities in which they can happily live. Mike has heard far too often that current seniors living in Minnesota are "unaffordable" even though they live in what is defined as "affordable housing communities." We need to establish lower housing costs for seniors and incentivize developers to build quality senior housing communities in Minnesota.

On Civil Rights: Let people live their lives as they so choose

There is no place in our society where acts of violence, discrimination, or crimes based on gender, age, sex, race, religion, or sexual orientation should be accepted. It is time that all members of our society stop pushing their personal views, biases, and policies upon others and let people live their lives as they so choose.

On Crime: Increase rehabilitation for human trafficking victims

As governor, Mike will push for a human trafficking task force in cooperation with federal resources to bring awareness of human trafficking in Minnesota and track down and imprison offenders. Mike will also push the Minnesota legislature to increase rehabilitation assistance for victims beyond the age of 24. There should not be an age cutoff for victims who desperately need assistance recovering and assimilating back to society.

On Crime: No more looting; we're going to shoot back

Murphy said much of the motivation for his campaign stems from the riots in Minnesota that erupted after the murder of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police. The candidate said that starts with being vocal about supporting police and cracking down on violent criminals he thinks have been treated too softly by courts. "We have to let the criminals know that you're going to be in jail," Mr. Murphy said. "No more looting. We're going to shoot back. We're going to come after you."

On Drugs: Possibly legalize marijuana to raise state funds

Murphy said he would not cut funding for social programs. He suggested legalizing sports betting and possibly marijuana, "if done correctly," to support spending priorities.

On Drugs: More accessible licensing for substance abuse counselors

Mike is proposing more accessible licensing requirements for substance abuse counselors. Many aspiring counselors are former addicts who may not have a bachelor's degree. If people are willing to assist with our substance abuse and mental health crisis, they should be permitted to do so as long as they meet reasonable, formal training requirements and take steps to maintain their licensure.

On Education: Yes to early learning & increasing teacher's salaries

Minnesota ranks 20th in the nation for average teacher salaries, and that is unacceptable. Mike intends to introduce cost-saving programs that limit reckless spending by our school districts, directly reinvesting in our teachers through salary increases. Principals and administrators need the authority to hire the most qualified educators and the capability to discharge underperforming educators.

Research shows that quality early childhood education programs positively impact all children's cognitive and language development, regardless of income level or program setting. Early childhood learning makes a difference and is a sound investment. Despite budget challenges, it is essential to expand access to and improve the quality of early learning opportunities, particularly for low-income children.

On Education: Supports school choice; tax credits for private schools

School choice allows parents and guardians to use funding allocated for their child's education towards tuition at a private or specialty school of their choice. Tax-credit scholarship programs will offer tax credits to businesses that donate to scholarship-granting organizations or start an organization of their own that provides financial assistance to eligible students to use toward tuition expenses at a private or specialty school.

On Families & Children: Government should support and strengthen the family unit

Family is the foundation of our American society. Parents--not governments--have the most direct and immediate impact on a child's health, education, and welfare. Our communities, schools, government, and society will never succeed if we do not have healthy and vibrant families. Mike believes government policies should support and strengthen the family unit.

On Government Reform: Update and modernize voter registration systems

The 2020 election has highlighted the inaccuracies in our voting system. Voter integrity is vital to our elections, and to the Democratic process. Minnesotans deserve to know that our elections are free and fair. As Governor I will fight to protect the ballot box, and make that your vote matters.

On Government Reform: Voter fraud on a massive scale in 2020

All five Republican gubernatorial hopefuls were asked the same first question during the debate: "In your opinion, did President Biden win a constitutional majority in the electoral college?" Not a single candidate expressed confidence in the long-certified results. Murphy, the mayor of Lexington, said he believes there was voter fraud on a "massive scale" across the country in 2020, though acknowledged he can't "pinpoint the evidence' because he's not "privy to the scheme." He also cited a debunked Project Veritas video about the DFL primary in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. None of the candidates specifically explained which states' results they believe weren't valid.

On Government Reform: Voter fraud at massive scale in 2020 across the country

HUGH HEWITT, DEBATE MODERATOR: In your opinion, did President Biden win the constitutional majority of the electoral college?

DR. SCOTT JENSEN: I can`t know what I don`t know. And I think we have to take that attitude towards 2020.

MAYOR MIKE MURPHY: I do believe there was voter fraud at a massive scale across this country.

STATE SEN. PAUL GAZELKA: I don`t think the election was fair, but I do think we have the results that we have. The electoral college is the way that we determine the election.

STATE SEN. MICHELLE BENSON: The more we watch, the less they cheat.

On Health Care: Protect pre-existing conditions; more pricing transparency

Mike will always support protecting individuals with pre-existing conditions, especially those affected by COVID-19. No matter what comes of the Affordable Care Act, Mike will always fight to ensure those who need health coverage will receive care.

Price transparency, in addition to access to information about quality, empowers patients to shop for the most effective, lowest-cost health care available. It also drives prices down as health care providers compete for market share. The promise of cost control through consumer empowerment has made transparency an objective among legislatures.

MinnesotaCare & Medical Assistance programs must be continuously monitored. Mike believes our healthcare experts & legislators need to re-evaluate income requirements to join these programs. Due to high costs, most small businesses cannot afford to offer their employees health insurance. Mike proposes expanding these programs to small businesses and sole proprietors who cannot provide healthcare coverage.

On Local Issues: Protect the economic interests of our farmers and ranchers

We need to protect the economic interests of our farmers and ranchers. We must help our farmers with grants to purchase high-tech smart farming equipment. Smart farming increases the quantity and quality of products while optimizing the human labor required. Smart farming also makes farming more controlled and accurate. By precisely measuring variations within a field farmers can boost the effectiveness of pesticides and fertilizers or use them selectively.

On Local Issues: Supports Minnesota mining while protecting environment

Mike knows we cannot sacrifice our environment to create a "green economy." That is why we must have new and innovative policies that ensure our water and external environments surrounding the mines remain intact during the mining processes. Mike will hold mining organizations accountable for any malicious infractions and will make protecting Minnesota's environment his number one priority.

On Principles & Values: I'm just mad at the political system in Minnesota right now

In announcing his campaign, Murphy said he has grown frustrated by the direction of politics in the state. He wants lawmakers to do more to work together. "I'm not necessarily mad at Gov. Walz and about what he's doing," Murphy said. "I'm just mad at the whole entire political system in Minnesota right now."

On Principles & Values: Campaign about inclusion; everyone has a seat at this table

[Candidacy announcement]: "I am not running for power, popularity or financial gain. This campaign will be one of transparency and inclusion. It's not about being a Republican, a Democrat, a libertarian, a conservative, an independent or a grassroots supporter. Everyone will have a seat at this table. All of us have the right to be passionate and to defend our principles. Embracing our differences is the key to a quality & understanding. I am a conservative, but that does not make me a bad person."

On Social Security: Minnesota must re-evaluate taxing Social Security benefits

Our seniors have spent their lives investing into the system; they deserve Social Security and Medicare, and Mike will not tolerate decreasing benefits or reduced medical reimbursements for seniors. With the costs of goods and services rising, an overwhelming number of seniors now live at the poverty level. Minnesota must re-evaluate taxing Social Security benefits or, at minimum, adjust the income tax brackets.

On Tax Reform: Lower income taxes; reduce government spending

Murphy highlighted several priorities including lowering income taxes, reducing government spending, legalizing sports betting and providing better pay for teachers.
