John Jay Lee in 2022 NV Governor's race

On Abortion: Was a pro-life Democrat, became a Republican

[Campaign announcement]: Lee concluded, "When you're a pro-life Democrat, a pro-gun Democrat, and you're a very conservative person, that's not really well known in the Democratic Party any more. And so for me to hang on as long as I did, hoping the party would change, it didn't, it got worse. So therefore, I found a new place that I can put my allegiance to and help.

On Budget & Economy: Won't accept expanding and intrusive government

The working class, the working men and women of this country, and also the small business owners are not a part of the conversation anymore, it all has to do with the elitist and it has to do with the socialists. That is not the agenda that I have in mind for this country and the future. The tourism, hospitality and gaming industry are not for expanding the government to even bigger and more intrusive into our lives. That's not what we want out west and we're not going to accept it anymore.

On Crime: Doesn't know how child porn got on his iPad, called police

Lee addressed the 2014 story surrounding child pornography found on his iPad. He said he opened a link that contained the pornography and went to police as soon as he realized the material was on his computer. Both the North Las Vegas Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation looked into the situation, and the FBI ruled it did not have enough information to file any charges. "I did not do anything wrong, and I look forward to putting an end to that story," Lee said.

On Health Care: COVID: Unvaccinated, gets COVID, opposes mandates

Lee, a 65-year-old cancer survivor and former state lawmaker who was elected mayor in 2013 and reelected in 2017, announced his positive test in a Facebook post--without explaining why he had not been vaccinated. A review of Lee's Facebook and Twitter accounts showed he had not expressed skepticism about its safety or effectiveness--though he had questioned vaccine mandates and any policies that could require Americans to disclose whether they had been vaccinated.

On Tax Reform: Federal taxes hurt families & local government

Q: What about higher taxes? There are a lot of big corporations out there in Vegas.

LEE: There are and those taxes are very important. A lot of taxes are taking out of people's pockets are taxes that we kind of need to run our local governments and stuff. They're not giving any opportunity about families saving for their future, for their children's education, it's all about them and their socialistic values and that doesn't work.
