Andrew Giuliani in 2022 NY Governor's race

On Abortion: Protect the right to life, I look at this very simply

Giuliani would not commit to protecting a woman's right to have an abortion. "I would protect the right to life. I look at this very simply. I'm a father now of almost six months and the first time I saw my daughter on the ultrasound, I knew the most important thing in my life is protecting her," he said. "Another thing, I look at what we've seen in celebrating late-term abortion as one of the most despicable things that we've seen on a state level."

On Civil Rights: Kneeling during anthem is a war on our police

A diehard Yankees and football Giants fan, Giuliani said he opposed professional players kneeling during the National Anthem to protest police abuse of black citizens, calling it "disappointing" and "very sad."

"They're protesting. This is a war on our police," he said. "Sports is something that's going to bring people together. Unfortunately, now it's become a divisive topic."

On Civil Rights: Would protect same-sex marriage, right to adopt

When asked if a potential Gov. Giuliani would protect the right to same-sex marriage as well as continue to allow gay couples to adopt, he said "yes."

On Corporations: Worked for Trump on deregulation of businesses of all sizes

He joined the Trump administration as Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison in 2017. In 2019, he was promoted to Special Assistant to the President. His role consisted of working with high-level business leaders and CEOs to help President Trump and his Cabinet Secretaries craft policy, specifically including the 2017 tax cuts, the deregulation of businesses of all sizes, and was proud of his work on the Opioid task force.

On Crime: Curbing crime a top priority, no greater friend to police

Giuliani, citing an increase in shootings, said curbing crime will be a top priority. He said Cuomo and the Democrats have been more interested in helping defendants by eliminating cash bail for many crimes. "This has to be something dealt with at the state level. The police are not getting protection from City Hall and Albany to do the job right. There will be no greater friend to the police than Andrew Giuliani," he said.

On Crime: Stop the war on police; end bail reform

[Campaign announcement interview]: "We need a leader who is going to light the economic furnace in New York and keep our streets safe again," said Mr. Giuliani in a telephone interview. "Stop the war on police that has been going on. End bail reform."

On Drugs: Legal marijuana products can be a state revenue source

Andrew Giuliani said he would work to enact a measure legalizing marijuana products in New York, calling it a chance to bring money to the state and signaled he was also supportive of medical marijuana. "That is something that I would work to implement," Giuliani said. "I think that's a revenue source and I think that's something we need to look at."

On Education: Open more charter schools, give parents choice

Giuliani also accused Cuomo and Democratic legislators of abandoning parents and kids by failing to raise the cap on the opening of more charter schools. "I will be someone to fight for your choice. The 270 cap in New York City is beyond absurd. The cap needs to go up. It's hurting kids who don't have the means to go to an expensive private school," he said.

On Education: Wants a tax voucher program for school choice

[On schools]: "I'm a big believer in bringing the free market into education," he said. "I don't think the teachers' union should decide, exclusively, what our child's education should be." Giuliani said he will move to raise the charter school cap from 460 to over 1,000. "That's why I want to make sure there is a tax voucher program here in New York so that way parents can take those tax dollars and take them to a private school, a parochial school, a Yeshiva, or a home school," he said.

On Government Reform: Supports term limits, ban outside income in state office

When it comes to corruption in state government, Giuliani said he is an advocate of term limits and that he would consider capping campaign contributions. Additionally, in order to prevent another governor from profiting from a book deal, Giuliani said he would a ban outside income for statewide offices.

On Government Reform: We will never know who legitimately won the 2020 election

Giuliani: I certainly have my concerns with the 2020 election.

GG: But do you believe that Joe Biden is a legitimate president?

Andrew Giuliani: I believe that we will never know who legitimately won the 2020 election to be perfectly honest, and that is a big concern. And then if you look back at 2016, at the 2016 election, I think if you were to talk to a lot of Democrats, they would have said they don't know who the legitimate president [is].

On Gun Control: Against strengthening state gun laws after mass shooting

In response to the mass shooting in Buffalo, New York gubernatorial hopeful Andrew Giuliani told Capital Tonight that he wants to re-introduce the death penalty, ensure a mental health task force proposed by Republican Assembly convenes, and revisit the state's Red Flag Law. He is not, however, an advocate of strengthening the state's gun control laws.

On Health Care: I am anti-mandate for COVID vaccinations

I am anti-mandate [for COVID vaccination]. I believe that this should be a decision that parents, people, their families, and their doctor make. This is not something that the government should impose on any New Yorker. And I'm very happy with what I'm seeing not just in the Supreme Court, but also in New York State court here. I think that we're going to continue to see that these mandates are unconstitutional. And I would roll them back.

On Principles & Values: I'm a politician out of the womb; it's in my DNA

[Campaign announcement interview]: "I'm a politician out of the womb. It's in my DNA," Giuliani, 35, told The Post, referring to his childhood as the son of a larger than life Big Apple mayor. "Giuliani vs. Cuomo. Holy smokes. Its Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. We can sell tickets at Madison Square Garden," he said, referring to the famous 1971 heavyweight title prizefight.

On Principles & Values: Trump a father figure, helped him during parents' divorce

The younger Giuliani has served in the Office of Public Liaison, beginning as an associate director, since March 2017, making him one of the longest-serving members of the Trump administration. According to White House personnel records from 2018, he earns a salary of $90,700. The public-liaison office deals with outreach to outside coalitions, and several of the current and former administration officials I spoke to said Giuliani helps arrange sports teams' visits to the White House.

What Giuliani may have lacked in government experience, however, he made up for in having Trump's trust. Trump has long been a father figure to his personal lawyer's son. Giuliani credits Trump with helping him navigate the period after his father's divorce from his mother, Donna, when he was a teenager, and particularly with helping him repair his relationship with Rudy. "He loves POTUS, big time" for that.

On Principles & Values: As 7-year-old, upstaged father's inaugural address as mayor

For many New Yorkers, particularly in the city, the image that jumps to mind--one that the 35-year-old Mr. Giuliani has struggled to live down--is of his 7-year-old self fidgeting about the lectern at City Hall as his father gave his inaugural address as mayor in 1994. The moment was satirized by "Saturday Night Live," with Mr. Giuliani played by the comedian Chris Farley. (Mr. Giuliani said he loves the skit.)

On Tax Reform: Roll back increased taxes on corporations, wealthy

He said "rolling back" the increase in corporate taxes and income taxes on the wealthy just approved by Cuomo and the Legislature would also be a top priority. Giuliani said the high tax and anti-business environment "is one of the reasons New York is losing people."

On Tax Reform: Promises highest tax cut, budget cut in New York history

On taxes, Giuliani wants to cut the size of the state's $220 billion budget. "Florida's [budget] is $97 billion. There's a reason why we end up leading the country in out-migration. And one of the main reasons is that our budget is over two times that of other more business and competitive friendly states," said Giuliani. "You will get the highest tax cut and budget cut in the history of our state in a Gov. Giuliani," he stated.

On Technology: Got CARES Act funding to save thousands of transit jobs

For New Yorkers, Andrew helped to preserve thousands of MTA jobs by facilitating CARES Act funding. He also worked with the Treasury Department and Health and Human Services to ensure that the $3.9 million that had been inadvertently taken out of the 9/11 First Responders Fund over thirteen years and three administrations was completely refunded.
