Joe Pinion in 2022 NY Governor's race

On Budget & Economy: Claims Federal COVID aid used to push critical race theory

Calling it a "continuation of the left," Pinion criticized the state's use of federal COVID-19 relief funds to push critical race theory (CRT) in schools as well as the inability of others to anticipate it:

We saw it with the funding of the education for emergency COVID funding, and now we have some of these think tanks who are just now figuring out that they've used COVID emergency dollars to fund CRT.

On Education: We need to have school choice for every single child

[On schooling]: "I think we need to have school choice for every single child and American that wants it," Pinion said. "We're spending close to $28,000 per child, and not getting the results that amount of spending should generate."

"If you look around New York and look around the country, 70 percent of the children in Baltimore high schools read at the elementary school level. That's child abuse, anyway you slice it," Pinion said.

On Energy & Oil: Capitalism is the solution for developing renewables

The reality is that capitalism isn't the problem. It is the solution. When the best wind turbines and solar panels are made in America, that means more jobs in America paying the living wages American workers deserve. Our goal should be positioning our country to compete in this emerging global landscape, not destroying the business environment required for success.

On Free Trade: We've been outsourcing the American Dream and its jobs

[On inflation]: "We have 87 percent of New Yorkers talking about the rising costs of food, [which] were already at historic rates before a single tank rolled across [Ukraine's] border, because of the supply chains; because we have become completely dependent on other nations to do for us what we have always had the power to do for ourselves," he said.

"This [is the] outsourcing of the American Dream and the jobs that go with it, and this is only going to get worse," he added.

On Government Reform: Term limits are a must, we need them today

While supporting term limits, Pinion expressed his belief that responsible leadership is the ultimate key. "Term limits are a must. We need them and we need them today, but I think beyond that," he said. "I think it's about having leadership that recognizes the purpose of America; the value of America."

On Immigration: Population explosion due to people illegally crossing border

He claimed the current "explosion in population" is due to people illegally crossing the border while "four million people wait in line legally" to enter the U.S.

"If we want to have an influx in population, certainly we must start with the people who raised their hands, said they want to come here, and are following the laws to do so."

On Tax Reform: Restore full deductibility of state and local taxes

The cap on SALT, the state and local tax which had been fully deductible prior to 2017, was instituted by Republicans under then-President Donald Trump. It is fiercely opposed by New Yorkers, especially those who live in high-property tax areas of the state. "We have someone in Chuck Schumer who is supposed to be the most powerful man in the United States Senate who has failed to deliver those SALT deductions that make the middle class living affordable for New Yorkers," Pinion said.

On Health Care: COVID policy mandates have no basis in science

"We can build this coalition of police officers who have been aggrieved; of nurses who were heroes a year ago and today find themselves on the unemployment line without access to the unemployment benefits, they've been paying into their entire professional lives because of COVID policy mandates that have no basis in science," he added.
