On Health Care: No work requirement for Medicaid undermines American ethic

[On Medicaid]: "The Biden Administration's decision to withdraw Ohio's Medicaid work requirement fails to prepare people for a productive life, trapping recipients in a never-ending cycle of dependency and poverty," tweeted Lt. Gov. Jon Husted. "The idea that Americans can receive free health care at the expense of other hard-working Americans and cannot be asked to complete job training, education or work 20 hours per week undermines the American ethic."

On Civil Rights: Criticized for referring to COVID as the "Wuhan virus"

Oanh Loi-Powell came to the United States in 1975 as a refugee from Vietnam. She describes herself as a political independent, she voted for Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted in 2018.That's part of why she was caught so off-guard when she saw a tweet from Husted referring to the "Wuhan virus." Husted's tweet, and the ensuing defense of his use of the term to describe the coronavirus, has left many Asian Americans in Ohio feeling dismayed.

On Education: Encourages school/business cooperation on job counseling

[On job counseling]: "Students need to be proactive, moms and dads need to be proactive at helping their sons and daughters get access to this information through their career counselors and so forth so that they can take advantage of the many wonderful job opportunities throughout northwest Ohio," Husted said. "If you're a business, you need to be engaged with your high school or your career center. If you're an educational institution, you need to be engaged with your local business community."

On Energy & Oil: Welcomed third domestic solar energy facility in Ohio

"This new facility represents another win as we expand high-tech manufacturing in Northwest Ohio, creating great, higher-paying jobs that will be here for years to come."

On Homeland Security: Proclaimed Ohio a Hidden Heroes State for veteran caregivers

Gov. Mike DeWine is working to ensure that military and veteran caregivers are recognized and have access to helpful resources and support. DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted signed a proclamation which designates Ohio as a Hidden Heroes State. The proclamation states since World War II, there has been 5.5 million military and veteran caregivers who are caring for wounded or ill service members. Those caregivers are often parents, spouses, siblings, children and friends.

On Civil Rights: Voted to ban gay marriage prior to Supreme Court decision

In 2003-04 Ohio's General Assembly passed a bill--which then-Gov. Bob Taft signed--forbidding same-sex marriage in Ohio. Among then-General Assembly members who voted to ban same-sex marriage were future Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.
