2022 OH Governor's race: on Principles & Values

John Cranley: Championed bringing soccer to city, built new stadium

Carl Lindner III, one of Cincinnati's wealthiest businessmen, wanted to bring Major League Soccer to Cincinnati. Cranley was an early champion of bringing a team here and of building a stadium in the West End, which was a contentious issue throughout much of the approval process. The stadium opened in May, with MLS Commissioner Don Garber calling it "one of the great soccer stadiums anywhere in the world."

Jim Renacci: Ohio has too many problems to help country or other states

It is long past time for Ohio's leaders to put Ohio and our citizens first. Ohio has too many problems for us to consider even spending one dime of limited state taxpayer money on other states or problems created by the Biden administration. Ohio's taxpayer dollars should be spent here in Ohio on solving Ohio's problems first.

Nan Whaley: Focus on economy, no compromise on core progressive values

In cities like Dayton, it is easy to just say we want to make America great again. But we don't have time to focus on what is behind us. Nan believes we must maintain a laser-like focus on economic issues without compromising on civil rights and other core progressive values. We all know that Ohio is not a "red state." But if we fail to lay out a positive vision for the future and demonstrate the good we can do when we govern according to our values, then it will be.

Mike DeWine: Protests against me protected by First Amendment

The only thing that I've asked our protests to do is to observe social distancing. We're all big believers in the First Amendment. They were protesting against me yesterday, and that's just fine. They have every right to do that.

Nan Whaley: No religious discrimination by business; Dayton open to all

Whaley is disappointed that Indiana has joined a growing list of States adopting Religious Freedom Restoration Acts. These acts reflect a growing trend among states that allow businesses to refuse service to anyone for religious reasons. "Dayton is a community that is open for everyone," said Mayor Nan Whaley. "Today I am proud to be a Daytonian, as we set ourselves apart from those states that protect only some citizens through RFRA laws. Dayton is open to every business and every citizen."
