2022 OH Senate race: on Energy & Oil

Bernie Moreno: Doesn't believe electric cars are the right answer

When it comes to electrification, Moreno doesn't believe it's the right answer. He says, for us (U.S.) to become dependent on China for batteries, seems like a bad thing. He continues to say, it's a mistake from a public policy perspective to jump headfirst into electrification. Only about 2% of vehicles are electric and, he says, people need to take a look at the marketplace.

Jane Timken: Oil and gas are essential for energy and jobs

As gas prices are spiking and you're waiting at the pump in long lines, reminder that Biden and Democrats are launching an assault on American energy workers and independence. When Democrats say they want to shut down pipelines and oil and gas - believe them.

JD Vance: Subsidizing electric vehicle technology helps China, not US

Vance remarked, "What the Biden administration is doing on climate change will effectively force the transfer of manufacturing jobs and capacity to China, because when you subsidize, let's say, electric vehicle technology, what you're really subsidizing is the country that manufactures all that technology, which is China, so you're subsidizing a country that hates us [and] that is building its middle class off the backs of ours."

Josh Mandel: Climate research inconclusive & riddled with fraud

Josh Mandel, an outspoken critic of [Obama] White House environmental policies, said that he doubts the presence of global warming. The state treasurer thinks scientific research on the matter "is inconclusive and riddled with fraud." Appearing at a southeastern Ohio coal mine, Mandel said those who worked to advance clean-air standards would do so "over our dead bodies." Pressed about the remark, Mandel said he was using a "colloquial" phrase.

Josh Mandel: Attacked "war on coal": Over! Our! Dead! Bodies!

During one speech to coal miners in Beallsville, he railed against the "War on Coal," neglecting to note that its main foe was cheaper, cleaner natural gas. He again turned to the dead body theme. "For any of these folks trying to get between us and affordable, reliable, dependable energy, we have four words for them: Over! Our! Dead! Bodies!"

Tim Ryan: We must get serious about reducing carbon emissions

The threat of global climate change is one of the most critical issues facing our world today. The science is clear that if greenhouse gas emissions continue to accelerate, we will see increased climate instability, more frequent severe weather, rising sea levels, and irreversible losses to natural resources and wildlife. We owe it to future generations of Americans to tackle this problem head-on by getting serious about reducing carbon emissions that threaten public health and welfare.

Tim Ryan: No fossil fuel donations was only for presidential campaign

Ryan received campaign support from FirstEnergy Corp.'s political action committee, despite sign[ing] a pledge against taking funds from fossil fuel companies. In a statement, Ryan said the pledge applied only to his presidential campaign. "I was asked to sign a pledge along with all the other Democratic presidential candidates to live by the same rules and not take money from the fossil fuel industry for my presidential campaign. I did not break that pledge, plain and simple," he said.
