2022 OK Senate race: on Education

Joan Farr: In favor of prayer and spanking being put back in schools

I am in favor of prayer being put back in schools as well as spanking - spare the rod and spoil the child. Simple time-outs have resulted in too many snowflakes, and they need a meltdown.

Kendra Horn: Invest in programs like Head Start, Early Head Start

[On pre-K education]: "It is clear a lot of love and care is put into this facility and the investment of long term potential of the children and of the Shawnee area is huge," Horn said. "I believe that by seeing this up front I can see the impact on Shawnee Public Schools (SPS), the future workforce needs and the importance of investing in programs like Head Start and Early Head Start to set our children up for success and to support the families."

Kendra Horn: 2018 campaign: emphasized her support for public schools

Rather than talk about President Donald Trump or hot-button issues like abortion or immigration, Horn emphasized her support for public schools, an important issue in Oklahoma following a teacher walkout in the spring. "We focused on talking to people across the 5th District about things that were important to them," Horn said. "And over and over again, we heard their concerns about health care and education, and that's what we talked to people about."

T.W. Shannon: Vouchers are the answer to fixing government-run schools

Shannon noted that school voucher programs have demonstrated "effectiveness in fixing the public schools."

"I think that is the answer to fixing the government-run schools," Shannon said. "The Democrats have a strategy, and that strategy--a big part of that--are these government-run schools." Shannon said public schools once served the common good and "used to be a really shining area for freedom, where every boy and girl was to be educated--a novel idea that was started by the churches."

T.W. Shannon: School boards are trying to kick parents out of classrooms

[On schools]: "Right now, Joe Biden is the weakest leader we have ever seen on the international stage, and every social policy he is advancing is against the Christian values that we all hold true," Holland said. "He wants to kick God out of everything." He went on to accuse school boards of trying to kick parents out of classrooms and called human-made climate change "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people'' and an attack on the oil and gas industry.
