Christine Drazan in 2022 OR Governor's race
On Budget & Economy:
Identify and prosecute waste, fraud and abuse in government
For too long, fraudsters have taken taxpayers for a ride by stealing money from the unemployment program, rental assistance programs, and other government benefits. The state has a duty to protect taxpayer
dollars by aggressively investigating and prosecuting instances of fraud and using all legal means to recover stolen money. Fraud of any kind will not be tolerated by my administration.

On Crime:
End treating police like criminals, criminals like victims
Violent crime in Oregon is out of control, especially in Portland, which is experiencing an all-time high in murders. Under my administration, the days of treating police like criminals and criminals like victims will end.
I will support law enforcement and I will increase funding for our state troopers. I will ensure that laws are being enforced fairly. And when Portland politicians refuse to stop the nightly riots and bring peace to the streets, as Governor, I will.

On Education:
Expand access to school choice, stand up for parents' rights
As Governor, I will lead by keeping our schools open full time and in person, get back to the basics in the classroom, give parents a forum to be heard, and leave the politics at home where it belongs.
And I will expand access to school choice so that students can learn in the education environment that best fits their needs. I will stand up for parents' rights and ensure that they have a voice in where and how their child gets an education.

On Energy & Oil:
Will repeal cap-and-trade climate scheme on my first day
In March of 2020, Governor Brown signed an executive order establishing a cap-and-trade style program in Oregon. This overreach is going to harm critical industries like timber, manufacturing and trucking and result
in price increases across the board for Oregonians. I will repeal Governor Brown's climate scheme on my first day in office.

On Government Reform:
Get the government off the backs of our small businesses
I will fight for lower taxes for families and businesses and streamline regulations that make it expensive to build everything from new housing to new factories. I will support critical industries like timber, trucking, and manufacturing.
We will invest in job training and technical education programs. And we will get the government off the backs of our small businesses by reining in our state agencies and anti-business regulatory environment.

On Government Reform:
Establish a permanent task force on election integrity
- Ban ballot harvesting.
- Support a constitutional amendment establishing an independent redistricting commission.
- Direct the attorney general to investigate any allegations of voter fraud and to prosecute confirmed cases.
-
Increase penalties for those found guilty of defrauding our elections.
- Establish a permanent task force on election integrity to examine vulnerabilities in our system.
- Require audits of our elections when evidence of irregularities exist.

On Gun Control:
If a gun ban bill comes my way, I'll veto that
Senate Bill 554 broadened a ban on guns in public buildings and opened the door for additional restrictions. Drazan said that she would veto any bills that infringed on Second Amendment rights if elected governor.
However, unless the courts overturn SB554, it would remain the law."The governor has got to live within the scope of the governor's authority," Drazan said. "And if there's a gun bill that comes my way, I'll veto that."

On Health Care:
Repeal COVID-19 mask and vaccine mandates
I will end Governor Brown's state of emergency declaration and repeal her heavy-handed mandates on Day One. We will be done with mask mandates. We will be done with vaccine mandates. Oregonians will get the information they
need to determine for themselves and their own families how they want to approach the virus and make decisions that are personally best for them and their families.

On Local Issues:
Restore the voices of rural Oregonians in state government
I was born in Klamath Falls to a family that was dependent on the natural resource industry. I understand the challenges our rural communities face because I've seen them firsthand. As governor, I will end the
one-size-fits-all approach to policy making, prioritize local control and restore the voices of rural Oregonians in their state government. The days of Portland politicians trying to tell our rural communities what is best for them are over.

On Tax Reform:
I will veto new taxes & repeal costly regulations
Inflation is a tax on working families. It is compounded by a regulatory and tax environment that has led to additional price increases for many of the goods and services Oregonians rely on.
As governor, I will lead by vetoing new taxes, repealing costly regulations, and by supporting policies that allow Oregonians to keep more of their money in their own pockets.

On Welfare & Poverty:
Work with non-profits, faith community on homelessness
The problem of Oregonians living on our streets has exploded. I will address the root causes of homelessness--addiction, mental health, and affordability--and work with our nonprofits, the faith community, and local governments to
get people off the streets. We must help those looking for assistance. And when people commit criminal behavior, I will ensure they are prosecuted instead of given a pass.

On Abortion:
Against abortion, but would only enforce existing laws
Kotek highlighted her legislative record and support from groups supporting abortion access, and Johnson noted her history as a Planned Parenthood board member and legislator supporting abortion access. Drazan said she is against abortions, but beyond
that only that she would enforce Oregon's abortion laws. That led Kotek to point out that a governor could do a great deal to effectively restrict abortion even with the laws on the books. None answered the moderator's question about when life begins.

On Gun Control:
Oppose Measure 114: we have enough gun laws already
Talk about guns was keyed partly to a recent shooting incident in Bend and partly to Measure 114, which if the voters pass it in November would mandate permitting and safety training before purchasing a gun. Kotek endorsed it, and noted that both of her
opponents had top ratings from the NRA.The other candidates were opposed. Drazan said that Oregon has enough gun legislation at present, and Johnson argued about release of some violent prison inmates, but appeared to oppose further gun restrictions.
