2022 RI Governor's race: on Energy & Oil

Ashley Kalus: Support industries such as offshore wind and aquaculture

Kalus, the only Republican on the stage, said communities should follow Barrington's climate action plan and include "hardening our assets."

"As we rush toward that new economy we need a governor that is able to balance innovation and entrepreneurship with environmental justice and the realities of climate change," she said about supporting industries such as offshore wind and aquaculture.

Dan McKee: Community solar panel program lets people subscribe

[On landfill conversion]: "Today, we are celebrating the transformation of a brownfield into a clean, renewable energy source, while making the benefits of solar power available to more Rhode Islanders," said McKee at a ribbon cutting ceremony. "The state's community solar program allows National Grid customers, who want to reduce carbon emissions but who cannot install solar panels on their own homes, to subscribe to a local solar project & receive a discount on their electric bills.

Matt Brown: Make RI the first state run on 100% clean, renewable energy

What the political establishment has done on climate change ranges from nothing to weak tea. It's obviously a massive crisis and we're way past out of time. Our platform would make Rhode Island the first state that is run on 100% clean, renewable energy. We also call for shutting down the fossil fuel and other polluting industries in the Port of Providence. It's part of the systemic targeting of Black and brown communities with polluting industries causing asthma, especially for children.

Nellie Gorbea: Incentivize energy efficiency in new home construction

Uncertainty and delays in the building process leads to increased costs. We can streamline permitting while ensuring that we build a diversity of home types and incentivize the building of energy-efficient homes. Create incentives that promote energy efficient practices in new home construction of both market rate and government subsidized housing.
