Survey of 2022 Senate campaign websites: on Abortion

Alex Lasry: Ensure access to abortion and reproductive care

Like the majority of Wisconsinites, I believe that every person should have autonomy over their reproductive health. In the U.S. Senate, I will fight to ensure that everyone has access to inclusive, high-quality, and affordable healthcare, and that includes abortion and reproductive care. Abortion remains safe and legal in Wisconsin, and I will work at the federal level to make sure that our laws protect these essential rights, regardless of who is sitting on the Supreme Court.

I will also defend against the continued efforts to limit funding for Planned Parenthood and other reproductive healthcare facilities that provide affordable care to people across the country. I am extremely proud of my wife, Lauren, for her work at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin to ensure that access to health care--from birth control and cancer screenings, to safe, legal abortion--is protected for individuals and families across Wisconsin

Cheri Beasley: Repeal Hyde Amendment; codify Roe v. Wade

With urgent threats to reproductive freedom before the U.S. Supreme Court, and hundreds of laws passed across the country aimed at restricting reproductive freedom, Cheri believes the Senate must take action to protect women's constitutional rights. In addition to repealing the Hyde Amendment, she supports the Women's Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade and protect reproductive rights so that women can get the care they need no matter where they live.

Cheri will also fight to protect and expand access to women's reproductive health care services and supports federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

Chris Van Hollen: Co-sponsored bill protecting right to travel for abortion

Senator Chris Van Hollen joined Senators Catherine Cortez Masto, Sheldon Whitehouse, Patty Murray, and Kirsten Gillibrand in introducing the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act of 2022. This legislation would make it crystal clear that it is illegal for anti-choice states to limit travel for abortion services and would empower the Attorney General and impacted individuals to bring civil action against those who restrict a woman's right to cross state lines to receive legal reproductive care.

Chris Van Hollen: Fierce defender of a woman's right to reproductive choice

From his first days in the Maryland legislature to his current time in the Senate, Chris has been a recognized champion on issues vital for women and families. He is a staunch supporter of the Paycheck Protection Act to ensure equal pay for equal work and the Equal Rights Amendment. He is also a fierce defender of a woman's right to reproductive choice and an original sponsor of the Women's Health Protection Act.

Dan Whitfield: Pro-choice but focus on sex ed & access to contraceptives

We need to make sure that every American child has the proper sex education, as well as access to contraceptives. By doing these two simple things we can end most unwanted pregnancies and then we would no longer have an abortion debate. Abortion should NOT be used as a form of birth control, but it should be available.

Dave Schatz: The Missouri Way made it most pro-life state in the nation

The best way to fix Washington DC is the Missouri Way. The same principles we have relied on here in the Show-Me state to make Missouri the most pro-life, pro-freedom, pro-family, pro-law enforcement state in our nation.

David McCormick: Staunchly pro-life; life begins at conception

Jim Lamon: Stop taxpayer funding of abortions, local and international

Joan Farr: When sperm and egg unite it is God's will it should be born

When the sperm and the egg unite, it is God's will that a child should be born. I believe that what God has joined together, let no one put asunder. Adoption is the answer if a woman is unwilling or unable to care for her unborn child.

Joe O`Dea: Supports a nationwide ban on late-term abortion

Joe O'Dea strongly supports a nationwide ban on late-term abortion, a nationwide ban on taxpayer funding for abortion, a nationwide parental choice requirement, and will fight any attempt to make religious hospitals perform a procedure they object to. Joe does not support a ban in the case of rape, incest, or the life of the mother or early in the pregnancy. Some of us do not agree with this part of his position.

Justin Olson: 100% Pro-Life voting record, defunded Planned Parenthood

Justin Olson has a 100% Pro-Life voting record. His successful legislation defunded Planned Parenthood in Arizona. As a father, Justin understands the sanctity of life and will always vote to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Latham Saddler: Will fight to protect the lives of all our unborn children

Every parent knows the God-given instinct deep within us to protect our children. As a father, Latham knows this too, and hearing his sons' hearts beating for the first times solidified his belief in protecting unborn life. His twin brother, Ashby, who has Down syndrome, is a shining example of the extraordinary impact that a single life can have. Latham is pro-life and will fight to protect the lives of all our unborn children.

Mark Brnovich: As Attorney General, weighed in on a dozen pro-life cases

One of the most basic functions of law and government is to protect innocent human life at every stage. But once again, this isn't a political platitude for Mark Brnovich. He's actively fought to defend life in the courts. As Attorney General, Brnovich weighed in on a dozen pro-life cases.

Mark Holland: Defend the right of every woman to bodily autonomy

Every person has a right to decide if and when they have children. Access to affordable birth control is essential in every community. We need to defend the right of every woman to have autonomy over her body and make a decision about abortion. This basic human right should not be regulated by the government. We must especially stand up against inhumane abortion restrictions that offer no exceptions for rape, incest, and a woman's health.

Mehmet Oz: Knows how precious life is and is 100% Pro-Life

Michael Franken: Supports a woman's full autonomy for her health and body

Fairness means that everyone has the right to make their own personal health decisions. Admiral Franken supports a woman's right to full autonomy when it comes to her health and her body. As a nation, we fail the test of fairness when we hold women to a different standard than men.

Michael Franken: I will make codifying Roe a top priority

We must elect leaders who will unwaveringly commit to codifying Roe and to upholding the fundamental right for women to make their own health care decisions. If elected, I will make codifying Roe a top priority if it remains undone in 2022. If Roe is officially overturned, over 26 states are positioned to ban abortion--taking away health care for millions of people. Iowa could be one of those states by 2024.

Michael J. Steele: Supports choice, but make sure all options are known

I support a woman's right to choose, however I firmly believe that a woman should have all the tools to sustain life at her advantage such as counseling, knowledge, education, adoption services, and I know that our population has been decreasing at a 40-year low. The fertility rates are at all-time lows right now in America.

Mick McGuire: Congress must end funding relating to abortion

Protect Life: Life is our most fundamental right, and our nation must protect the innocent. We need a judiciary that will finally right its previous injustices and recognize this fundamental right. Congress must permanently end funding for activities that violate the sanctity of life. I will always stand up for life.

Mike Durant: 100% pro-life, overturn Roe v. Wade; opposes choice

Natalie Fleming: Stopping abortion at an abortion clinic is too late

Natalie Fleming is solidly and responsibly Pro-Life. We must make a world where Mothers feel safe to have their children and have hope in the future for both themselves and their child. The best path to promote life is to improve the lives of women and men. Stopping abortion at an abortion clinic is too late. Natalie Fleming believes that life is sacred and we should build our lives and communities to embrace the life around us.

Rick Becker: I support life from conception to natural death

The preborn are within the spectrum of human life every bit as much as a 6 month old, a 6 year old, or a 60 year old. The sanctity and respect for life must be upheld throughout all stages of life. Period. I unapologetically support life from conception to natural death. I will oppose all federal funding for abortion services.

Thomas McDermott: God gives no one a right to control another person's body

I have friends and neighbors who disagree on this issue, but to me it's just simple: God gives no one a right to control another person's body. I'm tired of men telling women what they can do with their own body. Women should have a right to choose, especially when their own lives are on the line. I favor legislation to codify Roe v. Wade as the law of the land. We also must protect resources that go to women's health in other areas through Planned Parenthood.

Trudy Busch Valentine: Pols get out of the damn way on personal medical decisions

As a nurse, Trudy cared for families and children during difficult and complicated situations and learned that tough decisions are best made by families and doctors. Politicians have no business interfering in private medical decisions. Every healthcare worker deserves to be able to share information freely and counsel families on their options without fear of prosecution or threats.

The best thing a politician can do regarding tough decisions made by families? Get out of the damn way.

As a nurse and a mother of six, Trudy knows that women deserve compassionate healthcare in every phase of life. Trudy will work to ensure families have access to birth control, abortion, family planning, and maternal healthcare without stigma or shame.

Val Arkoosh: We need to codify Roe v. Wade immediately

As a physician who focused on women's health, Val has seen firsthand the difficult decisions women make under difficult circumstances. Those decisions belong between a woman and her doctor, and no politician in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania or Washington, D.C. should be making those decisions for her. Val will fight to defend Roe v. Wade and expand reproductive justice, including by repealing the Hyde Amendment. She also supports efforts to codify Roe. v. Wade.

It also couldn't be more important that we have voices in the U.S. Senate with the experience to defend Roe v. Wade from the escalating attacks we are seeing on abortion. I specialized in women's health as a physician. We need to codify Roe v. Wade immediately, and because we know they are going to come after contraception next, we must work now to expand access to contraception and ensure cost is never a barrier to those seeking an abortion.

Will Boyd: Funding for organizations providing women's healthcare

    • Secure funding for organizations that provide healthcare for women even as some seek to defund them and misinform citizens about their missions and organizing activities
    • Support and introduce legislation that helps fill the healthcare/Medicaid coverage gap that exists for women in Alabama
    • Support a health care program affordable to all

Gary Chambers: Codify Roe v. Wade, repeal the Hyde Amendment

Gary supports measures like the Women's Health Protection Act which codify Roe v. Wade's provisions into law and ensure that people have access to abortions until the fetus is viable.

The Hyde Amendment which bans the use of federal funds to pay for an abortion except to save a woman's life or in the case of incest or rape needs to be repealed. Women have the right to choose, and we need to ensure that all people have access to all of the healthcare that they need. Abortions are healthcare.

Luke Mixon: I would vote to codify Roe and protect women's health care

I was deeply disappointed with the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe. Forcing survivors of rape or incest to give birth, risking women's lives, and threatening to jail doctors are not the values I foght to defend. We must defeat these radical laws. I would proudly vote to codify Roe and protect women's health care.

Pat Chesbro: Fight for women's medical care including abortion

Women's rights to make their own decisions and conduct their lives have been overruled, and they are losing their control over their own reproductive health. Our young women need assurance that that right will be theirs too. I'll stand up and fight for the rights of women to get the medical care they need, including abortion.

Joan Farr: Adoption is the answer for unborn children

When the sperm and the egg unite, it is God's will that a child should be born. I believe that what God has joined together, let no one put asunder. Adoption is the answer if a woman is unwilling or unable to care for her unborn child.
