Survey of 2022 Senate campaign websites: on Civil Rights

Alex Lasry: Systemic racism is ingrained in our society

People of color are disproportionately marginalized by the systemic racism ingrained in our society. Systemic racism can be seen everywhere from policing practices to environmental impacts on communities of color to housing and employment discrimination. As the next Senator from Wisconsin, I will prioritize racial and social justice, and ensure that we are creating economic opportunities for everyone, regardless of where they live or what they look like.

Alex Lasry: I am a strong supporter of the Equality Act

All LGBTQ+ Americans deserve equal rights & protections under the law. We still have a lot of work to do to make this a reality I will fight to make that happen. I am a strong supporter of the Equality Act, which will explicitly prohibit discrimination against people on the basis of sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression in all 50 states. This bill has passed the House but has not yet made it through the Senate. I will work in the Senate to get it passed as soon as possible.

Cheri Beasley: Will fight to pass Equal Rights Amendment

Cheri will fight to create a federal paid family and medical leave program, ensure equal pay for equal work and strengthen workplace protections for women so that no woman fears retribution for reporting harassment or feels unsafe at work. She will also fight to expand affordable childcare to address the childcare crisis which has disproportionately impacted women. Cheri will also fight to pass the Equal Rights Amendment to ensure gender equality under the law.

Cheri Beasley: Ensure protections for LGBTQ veterans and service members

Cheri also believes we must take additional action to ensure our democracy lives up to our foundational values of freedom and equality by passing the Equal Rights Amendment and the Equality Act.

Honoring our obligations also means ensuring federal protections for LGBTQ veterans and service members. And there is much more we must to do ensure accountability and adequate protections for service members by reforming the way the military investigates and prosecutes sexual assault.

Chris Van Hollen: Fighting for gender and LGBT equality

Chris's leadership on some of the biggest issues of our time--whether it's advancing civil rights, reforming our criminal justice system, or fighting for gender and LGBT equality--stems from a deeply held belief in the values of equal rights and equal justice for all Americans. He is an original sponsor of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and believes we need to end the private prison industry and treat drug addiction as a health issue, not a criminal act.

Dan Whitfield: No discrimination for sexual orientation or identity

No one should ever be discriminated against for their sexual orientation or identity. It is unconstitutional to prevent a same sex couple from receiving the same tax benefits as any other American couple. I also support same sex couples adopting children. As a cable guy I have been in thousands of peoples' homes. I have met so many wonderful people including same sex couples. Being a good parent has nothing to do with sexual orientation or identity.

Eli Bremer: Biden undercut Title IX, women's sports no longer protected

Biden and progressives are changing the definition of "woman" to a point where we risk having a legal definition that is unsustainable nor understandable. This risks undercutting the entirety of legal protections America has afforded to women. Biden undercut Title IX initiatives and set women's rights back decades. Women's sports are no longer protected and abused female athletes are not being protected by Washington.

Evan McMullin: Condemn bigotry including based on sexual orientation

We reaffirm the self-evident truth that all persons are created equal and free, having the same inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that it is the prerogative of all to make personal decisions in accordance with their free will. We therefore condemn all forms of bigotry such as racism, antisemitism and other religious intolerance, sexism, and persecution based on sexual orientation.

Jane Timken: Critical Race Theory is Marxist, divisive, racist ideology

Jane Timken Signs Pledge to Combat Critical Race Theory in Ohio: "Critical Race Theory has no place in Ohio schools or across this country. It's a Marxist, divisive, racist ideology that teaches our children to be judged on the color of their skin, not the content of their character," said Timken. "As Ohio's next Senator, I will fight for an education agenda that lifts up all children, regardless of race, so that all students can achieve their own American Dream."

Joan Farr: Against gay marriage & others laws favoring a small minority

Marriage is between a man and a woman, so I can't condone this sin. LGBTQ people represent only 4.5% of the total population, and although I believe in 'live and let live,' we should not be passing " laws that favor a small minority.

Madison Horn: Expand hate crime laws to include gender, personal identity

Source: 2022 Oklahoma Senate campaign website MadisonHorn.com Aug 24, 2022

Mark Holland: Stop criminalizing gender identity & other social issues

Passing punitive laws is a shallow and unsuccessful way to address America's social issues. We must stop criminalizing mental health, abortion, addiction, and gender identity. These laws only succeed in furthering cultural division and filling up our prisons. We must work together to craft meaningful policy that unites our country and helps those most in need.

Mike Durant: Radicals redefine American values with Critical Race Theory

Joe Biden starts making bad decisions from the moment he wakes up in the morning. Mike has watched as Joe Biden has been asleep at the switch deserting our core principles--abandoning our allies, even American citizens, in Afghanistan; cowering to the influence of the Chinese as they evade responsibility for the China Virus; or letting the radical left re-define our core American values through things like Critical Race Theory.

Rick Becker: No money for racist critical theory & identity politics

The importance of fighting--and winning--the culture war in America cannot be overstated. This is about the heart and soul of our country, and resisting the leftist push to an authoritarian, Marxist society in which language is controlled, speech is restricted, and political dissent is punished with the force of law. We must ensure that federal dollars are never used to promote racist critical theory or identity politics in federal agencies, contractors, or education.

Sharif Street: Add LGBT protection in our non-discrimination laws

In many parts of Pennsylvania, it is perfectly legal for a person to be fired from their job simply because they are gay. We must add protection for the LGBT community in our non-discrimination laws. It is not only the right thing to do, but it makes good business sense as well. More than 400 companies in Pennsylvania, including some of the largest employers, have non-discrimination policies in place that include sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Sharif Street: Against discrimination based on religion or lack of one

All Pennsylvanians must be treated equally, regardless of their religious preference. As the first and only Muslim member of the Pennsylvania Senate, Sharif understands the importance of religious freedom and tolerance in our democracy. He has a record of standing up against any attempts to limit religious freedom and supports policies to protect Pennsylvanians from discrimination on the basis of their religion, or their lack of one.

Trudy Busch Valentine: Protect marriage equality because love is love

In the Senate, Trudy will be proud to co-sponsor the Equality Act to protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination. Trudy will support legislation to protect marriage equality because love is love. Trudy will also champion full funding for organizations like Planned Parenthood that provide compassionate, quality care for LGBTQ patients.

Val Arkoosh: Would be first woman physician elected to the Senate

Ask Val Arkoosh about the possibility that she could become the first Pennsylvania woman elected to the U.S. Senate, and she'll counter with a different historical factoid. "I would also be the first woman physician ever, from either party," she said. Being one of the only women in male-dominated spaces isn't new for Arkoosh. It was like that in medical school, when she was chair of Drexel's anesthesiology department, and as the first woman to lead Montgomery County since it was founded in 1784.

Val Arkoosh: For Equality Act to protect LGBTQ+ community

Val believes our Commonwealth is strongest when everyone is treated equally under the law. Val stands with the LGBTQ+ community against discrimination and supports passage of the Equality Act to protect LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians from discrimination in housing and employment. She also supports ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment and removing the time limit on the ratification process so women are finally treated equally under the constitution.

Gary Chambers: Legally protect sexual orientation, gender identity

Working to pass the Equality Act to codify the protections initiated by the Biden Bostock Executive Order and fill in gaps in existing civil rights law. The Equality Act would codify the Bostock decision by explicitly including sexual orientation and gender identity in our nation's civil rights laws. This would make it much more difficult for opponents of equality in future administrations to refuse to enforce the Bostock decision and strip away LGBTQ civil rights protections in the future.

Luke Mixon: I support marriage equality, would vote to make it law

Every American has the right to Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Nothing is more central to the pursuit of happiness than partnering with the person you love and marrying your partner if you so choose. Members of the LGBTQ community should be free to marry their partner, if they choose, without government interference--because they are Americans. I completely support marriage equality and would proudly vote to make it law.
