Survey of 2022 Senate campaign websites: on Homeland Security

Bernie Moreno: A strong American military is the only way to ensure peace

A strong American military, the best in the world, is the only way to ensure peace. We need to ensure they are properly funded and have the resources they need to keep us safe. Our heroic veterans put everything on the line to fight for our freedoms. We need to make sure we don't forget their sacrifices and always take care of them.

Cheri Beasley: Increase resources for veterans, military families

Cheri will fight to ensure that the federal government honors its obligations to our service members, veterans and their families. We must expand investments to increase pay for service members, improve the infrastructure of VA health care facilities, increase resources for military families and expand the range of services the VA provides. Additionally, there is more we can do to help our veterans transition to civilian life, get jobs and increase awareness of and access to VA programs.

Dan Whitfield: Invest in the VA: education on bases for soldiers' children

22 veterans commit suicide every day in America, this issue should be at the top of all headlines. The VA does not work. We need to have both Veterans and Doctors come together to find a way to make sure our soldiers get the care they need when they come home. The funding for schools on military installations comes from the Department of Defense. If we can spend $740,000,000,000 a year on the military, we can afford to make sure our soldier's children are getting the best education possible.

Dave Schatz: Have the strongest, best-equipped, and most agile military

David McCormick: Advocate for resources for military and veterans

As a combat veteran, it is clear to Dave that the Biden Administration's foreign policy blunders have significantly weakened our position on the world stage. The disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal invited aggression from other adversaries like China, Iran and Russia. Dave is fully committed to restoring American strength, rebuilding the military, and ensuring our enemies and allies know there is no greater force than the United States military. As a combat veteran of the Gulf War, Dave understands what it's like to serve our country on the front lines and defend our American freedoms. Pennsylvanians have given disproportionately more to wars and conflicts, and veteran suicide rates in the Commonwealth are higher than the national average as a result. Dave will always support our troops and their families that have sacrificed their personal interests for a greater cause, and advocate for the necessary resources and care they deserve.

Eli Bremer: Our defense industrial complex needs to modernize

Our defense industrial complex and strategy will need to modernize and adopt new strategies to partner with the private sector to innovate and remain agile. We need to ensure our brave men and women not only have the equipment and resources they need, but also that they are adequately trained and compensated for their service and sacrifice. Additionally, our military must be allowed to operate how it is intended to -- protecting freedom and American interests here and abroad.

Herschel Walker: Invest heavily in our military to ensure we have the best

Herschel has seen firsthand the tremendous sacrifices that our men and women in uniform make and will always put American interests first at home and abroad. He believes that we must invest heavily in our military to ensure we have the best personnel and equipment, can never negotiate with terrorists, and should never leave any American behind.

Kendra Horn: In Congress served on the House Armed Services Committee

Kendra served on the House Armed Services Committee. She was the Vice Chair of the Strategic Forces subcommittee, where she focused on strategic and nuclear arms control, nonproliferation, nuclear safety, missile defense, and national security space policy. She played a leading role in improving housing conditions for our service members and their families and served as a conferee for the National Defense Authorization Acts in 2019 and 2020.

Latham Saddler: Work to ensure our common defense as a top priority

America is safest when it is at its strongest. Latham will work to ensure our common defense is a top priority for our government. Because of his experiences in the military and on the National Security Council, he knows America's strength means more peace, stability and security at home and across the globe. Georgia is home to several military installations. Latham will ensure that those bases remain keys to our national security mission and essential community partners across our state.

Leora Levy: A powerful military reinforces the efficacy of diplomacy

President Ronald Reagan left us the blueprint for defeating evil powers: Peace through strength. A powerful military reinforces the efficacy of diplomacy, but when diplomacy fails to resolve a crisis, it is the military that must take the baton. It is past time for the Western democracies to provide the planes and armaments that Ukraine needs to defeat the Russian invaders.

Luke Mixon: My desire to serve was inspired by my grandfather

It was also during this time that my desire to serve in the military was inspired by my grandfather, Charles Mixon, who served as a B-24 flight engineer during WWII. I graduated from the Naval Academy in 2001, three months prior to 9/11, which would determine the course of my military career. During my time in the military, I was blessed to work with some of the bravest and most talented Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. But I've also seen the consequences of irresponsible leadership.

Markwayne Mullin: Nation must honor its commitments to veterans

America made commitments to its military and it falls upon all of our shoulders to ensure our nation honors those commitments. My priority has always been to help veterans cut through the bureaucracy at the VA or other federal agencies. I have held yearly Veteran Town Hall meetings around our district to successfully bring together veterans, their families and available area resources. My office held informational seminars to help veterans understand the newly-enacted VA Choice Program.

Markwayne Mullin: Let military do their jobs with every tool available

We must fully support our troops whenever they are sent into harm's way. Our fighting men and women deserve strong, consistent leadership from their Commander in Chief, with clear objectives and a decisive plan for victory. Our military must be permitted to do the jobs they have been trained to do with every tool available in order to achieve the mission's goals and objectives of defeating America's enemies.

Mick McGuire: For restoring tuition reimbursement for National Guard

Major General McGuire, USAF (Ret.) advocated for education and workforce development. During his tenure, state funding was restored to Arizona's tuition reimbursement for National Guardsmen and federal tuition reimbursement was established for Arizona Air National Guardsmen.

Natalie Fleming: Fully prepared military but we must teach peace

As long as the Earth exists there will be those with evil intent. The United States of America Military forces must always be fully prepared with sufficient means to protect against and overwhelm any and every adversary. That being said, our knowledge, industry, compassion, and constitution are our greatest exports. As America becomes the Teacher of the World the need for the policing of the world will naturally subside. America must teach peace by example, word, and deed.

Pat McCrory: Invest in military, protect veterans, defend rights

Rick Becker: Must work to reduce our military footprint around the world

Most importantly, the Authority for Use of Military Force must be dramatically revised. I will not stand for sending our men and women overseas to risk their lives, when those in Congress will not even risk their political career to declare a war. If no declared war, then no dead American soldiers. The war authority is given to Congress, not the president. We must work to reduce our military footprint around the world in places in which it no longer serves a national security purpose.

Sarah Godlewski: Worked with Pentagon on variety of projects

Her time working with the Pentagon included developing language and culture capabilities, creating a medical services strategy for the Air Force, and addressing soldier morale. Sarah's work in national security and foreign affairs continued as she was a member of a Bipartisan Congressional PTSD Task Force--a group that provided recommendations on how DoD and VA can better support military members, veterans, and their families.

Tammy Baldwin: Full federal benefits to National Guard COVID fighters

Duckworth wrote to Trump expressing concern that his order to extend National Guard Title 32 authority for 89 days in response to COVID-19 precludes troops from qualifying for additional federal benefits. "Activated troops serving on the front lines of this pandemic should be focused solely on the response to this national Public Health Emergency and not on the status of their Federal benefits. The Federal Government should do more to ensure these public servants are properly taken care of."

Thomas McDermott: Ensure our veterans get the care and services they deserve

As a Navy veteran who spent six years in service, including the Persian Gulf War, I can tell you first hand we've got a lot of work to do to ensure our veterans get the care and services they deserve. We need to work to reduce homelessness among veterans, provide better health care and connect veterans to job and educational opportunities. We also should provide better services at the VA, and that bad employees at the VA who mistreat veterans are held accountable.

Val Arkoosh: Robust funding for military installations & veteran benefits

Val believes it is critical that we sustain and strengthen all the benefits our veterans and their families have earned serving our country. As a physician, Val understands it is critical that veterans and their families can access health care. In order to help those returning home with the transition to civilian life, Val supports robust educational benefits, including for servicemembers' children and spouses, and resources to help them find a job.

Val knows a strong military is key to our nation's defense. To support all those currently serving, in the U.S. Senate, Val will support robust funding for our country's military installations and training centers. And in any foreign policy decision that comes before the Senate, Val will always start by evaluating the impact to troops on the ground and their safety.

Gary Chambers: Cut defense budget; support nuclear disarmament

Gary believes in taking care of home first and holds the position that a significant portion of the military budget should be reallocated to domestic and non-military centered departments and policies, such as the H.R. 4864 Global Child Thrive Act of 2020.

Gary is also a proponent of nuclear disarmament and would support legislation that diverts funds away from the United States Nuclear Modernization and Replacement Program.

John Fetterman: Hold up our end of the bargain for veterans

The women and men of our armed forces are some of the best our country has to offer. After everything our service members do for us, the very least we can do is hold up our end of the bargain when they return home. For too long, politicians in both parties have short-changed our veterans through bad policy decisions, burdensome bureaucratic hurdles around the country, and mission creep around the world. It's disgraceful.

As your senator, I'll fight to expand and improve health care access for service members, improve quality of care provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs (V.A.) by securing increased funding, rigorous oversight and necessary reforms, and increased access to mental health services for PTSD, depression, and reintegration into society.

Honoring our veterans means cutting through the noise and getting things done for the people who put their lives on the line for our country. We must do more to support them.
