Deirdre Gilbert: Invest in the state's education system

Deirdre Gilbert, 60, is an educator from the Houston area who has never held elected office but seeks to become the first Black woman to serve as governor of Texas--or any other state in the U.S. She is the only Democratic candidate who has officially filed so far. Gilbert says if elected, she plans to expand health care and invest in the state's education system.

Don Huffines: Supports school choice and teaching creationism

In the Senate, Huffines was known as a conservative firmly in his party's right wing.

In a 2014 interview with KERA, Huffines said he supported term limits in the Texas senate, cutting taxes, school choice and teaching creationism.
