George P. Bush in 2022 TX Governor's race

On Civil Rights: Redesign Alamo without statue of Mexican Pres. Santa Ana

[Texas Tribune Nov. 23, 2020]: Land Commissioner George P. Bush has made little secret that he is interested in moving up, though he has said he would not challenge Abbott or Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. That has not stopped Patrick from moving aggressively to contrast with Bush on the most politically sensitive issue in his portfolio: his office's management of the Alamo.

[Texas Tribune Dec. 18, 2019]: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick joined critics of Land Commissioner George P. Bush, who is overseeing the controversial Alamo redesign plan. The back-and-forth was sparked last week by a Facebook post from the group Save The Alamo, who wrote that Bush intends to put up a statue of Mexican President Santa Anna, who led Mexican troops against the defenders of the Alamo. Bush said on Twitter the claims were an "outright lie" and "flat out racist." He questioned whether his Mexican heritage played a role in the accusation he would support a Mexican dictator.
