Tim Michels in 2022 WI Governor's race
On Drugs:
Against legalization, thinks it's a slippery slope
Michels, in separate radio interviews earlier this summer, said he opposes legalization. "I do not. I do not support the legalization of marijuana,"
Michels said in an interview in May on WTAQ. "I think it's all a slippery slope. I really do."

On Immigration:
No drivers' licenses, no benefits, and no tuition
Michels has made cracking down on the people he calls "illegals" a centerpiece of his campaign. He brags in his TV ads about building a prototype for former
President Donald Trump's border wall. And he touts his "blueprint to stop illegal immigration," including "no drivers' licenses, no benefits, and no tuition."

On Abortion:
Would ban abortion with no except for rape or incest
Tim Michels wants to criminalize abortion, even in cases of rape or incest: Michels said the 1849 ban on abortion that doesn't include exceptions for rape or incest is "an exact mirror" of his position.
He has said it was "not unreasonable" for the government to force rape victims to give birth. And the ban he supports could even lead to doctors being jailed for trying to save a patient's life.

On Civil Rights:
Supported constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage
Tim Michels doesn't think gay people should be out in public: Michels does not think that same-sex marriage should brought "out of your house" and has supported a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage.
He recently confirmed that he still believes in restricting the rights of LGBTQ Wisconsinites, as he did in 2004.

On Gun Control:
Against assault weapon ban & red flag laws
Tim Michels supports allowing 18 year olds to be able to buy AR-15s, with no waiting period. Tim Michels opposed a bipartisan package of reforms that included background checks for people under
21 purchasing guns and closed a deadly loophole that allowed domestic abusers to possess firearms. He has also pledged to lift restrictions on firearms, opposes an assault weapons ban, and said he will not support "red flag" laws.

On Energy & Oil:
Claimed cancelling Keystone Pipeline increased gas prices
Michels noted he spent 12 years in the Army, as a commanding officer who led hundreds of soldiers and now leads a company with his brothers that employs more than 8,000 people. The company--Michaels Corp., which builds a wide range of infrastructure
from tunnels to transmission lines--grew from just a few hundred employees "despite government bureaucracy, despite excessive taxation, despite the government attitude of so many on the left, as Barack Obama said, 'you didn't build that.'"
"We did build that, with a lot of hardworking people at our side, thousands of great paying jobs . like building the Keystone Pipeline, which we were doing on the inauguration day" when Biden signed an order canceling the project, he said.
Michels claimed the result was today's high gas prices, which "are driving up the price of everything.
Fact checks by several news organizations, however, have disputed that cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline resulted in higher pump prices.

On Education:
Favors competition, taxpayer-supported vouchers
Michels wants families to have more choice in education and favors taxpayer-supported vouchers. "Competition is what makes our business better.
We compete fiercely with our competitors--that's what makes us a better company. I think if there's competition in the education system, the same thing will happen. Parents will have a right to choose."

On Environment:
Nothing's more important than having clean, drinkable water
Michels supports government participation to ensure clean water. "Of course, the government's No. 1 duty is to take care of people.
The government needs to get involved and help with the cleanup. It's on the state level and the federal level. Nothing's more important than having clean, drinkable water. It's the foundation of life."
