First GOP presidential debate: on Government Reform

Asa Hutchinson: Reduce federal non-defense workforce by 10% like I did in AR

Vivek RAMASWAMY: The only war that I will declare as US President will be the war on the federal administrative state that is the source of toxic regulations acting like a wet blanket on the economy.

V.P. Mike PENCE: Let me explain it to you. I was a House conservative leader before it was cool. I actually pushed the Deficit Reduction Act. That was the last time we actually reduced the national debt.

Gov. Asa HUTCHINSON: We have 14 percent fewer state employees in Arkansas after I left the government than when I took over as governor eight years ago. I tell that because that's what we need in Washington, D.C. We need somebody who can actually constrain the growth of federal government, that can actually reduce the size. I pledge to reduce it by 10 percent our federal nondefense workforce. That's a specific pledge to make that attacks the administrative state. And let me applaud some of the business partners that are here that have had success in business.

Donald Trump: Anytime you have mail-in ballots there's massive cheating

Q: Don't you think it's racist to have to show your ID [to vote]?

TRUMP: They use anything not to show ID because voter ID is pretty simple. And we could go back and we should go back to all paper ballots, voter ID, same day voting. France did it. France had mail-in ballots and it was terrible. Anytime you have mail-in ballots, you're going to have massive cheating on your elections. Anytime. Not just the presidential election.

Q: Isn't that the whole point of them, so you can cheat?

TRUMP: Oh yeah, sure. It's the whole point. That's the whole point. They want to cheat. Yeah, they have to cheat because their policies are so bad that if they didn't cheat, they couldn't get elected. Who wants open borders? Who wants high taxes? Who wants high interest rates?

Vivek Ramaswamy: Declare war on the federal administrative state

V.P. Mike PENCE: Vivek, you recently said a President can't do everything. Well, I got news for you. I've been in the West Wing. A President has to confront every crisis facing America. I will put our nation back on the path to growth and prosperity.

Vivek RAMASWAMY: The only war that I will declare as US President will be the war on the federal administrative state that is the source of toxic regulations acting like a wet blanket on the economy. So, I'm not sure exactly understood Mike Pence's comment. For me, it's pretty simple. That's something the US President can do with focus, and I'll deliver on that.

PENCE: Let me explain it to you. I was a House conservative leader before it was cool. I actually pushed the Deficit Reduction Act. That was the last time we actually reduced the national debt. Joe Biden has weakened this country at home and abroad. Now is not the time for on-the-job training. We don't need to bring in a rookie.
