Asa Hutchinson: Not government's role to punish business for their views

I don't like what Disney said about the legislation that I would have supported in Florida, but it's not the role of government to punish a business when you disagree with what they're saying or a position that they take. If that was the view of a Republican, then we're going to be in all kinds of trouble in our businesses in blue states if they start punishing businesses for taking a more conservative speech or position.

Asa Hutchinson: Punishing business for exercising speech is heavy-handed

However you describe it, it appears to me that the governor did not like what Disney was doing in terms of what they were saying and exercising speech so they're being punished. But I think it is important that we make sure that we don't become heavy- handed in government to punish those that are creating jobs for Americans and creating income and growing the private sector. That's not what Republicanism is about. That's not what a conservative is about.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: Rebuild industrial infrastructure and undo off-shoring

In a June interview on the "Breaking Points" podcast, Kennedy said that his "primary platform" on the economy would be cutting military spending and reinvesting that money into domestic spending and development.

"My primary platform is to cut the costs on the military," Kennedy said on the show. "Again, what we were told was a peace dividend after the collapse of the Soviet Union. We were going to cut our military budget from about $600 billion a year to $200 billion a year."

On his website, Kennedy lists rebuilding industrial infrastructure "ruined by forty years of off-shoring" among his top priorities, alongside "government assistance to the nation's most vulnerable."

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: Our kids can't buy homes because of corporate accumulation

Q: As president, you would take the DoD spending cuts, this is primary to your economic plan, transfer that money into other things.

KENNEDY: Yeah, but I mean, that's not the only thing I want to do. I have a number of common sense programs that will begin restoring the middle class in this country.

Q: OK, what's another one?

KENNEDY: Well, one of the reasons that the price of housing has gone up and nobody can get a house anymore, people make an offer on a house and then somebody comes in with a cash offer-- they're big institutions like BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street.

Q: Buying up hundreds of thousands of homes?

KENNEDY: Right. They're targeting single family homes. They're competing with our kids, and they have these big bank books so the cost of money and mortgages to them is minuscule. And our kids have to compete with them.

Q: Well, what do we do about it?

KENNEDY: You change the tax code to make it more difficult for large corporations to accumulate thousands of houses.

Chase Oliver: End tax cuts for big businesses & not small businesses

Broadly speaking, Oliver says he is "pro-make your own choices" and not "pro-the government making choices for you." The interactions people have with the government should be voluntary, he said.

Libertarians seek to remove the force of government from people's lives, and this includes supporting ending restrictions on certain things. For example, Oliver wants to make things easier for people who want to start a business by getting rid of tax cuts and subsidies that exist for big businesses and not small businesses.

"I want to get rid of those subsidies and lower the cost of corporate cost of doing business overall across the board," Oliver said.
