2024 CA Senate race: on Homeland Security
Barbara Lee:
We need to cut defense budget by at least $100 billion
Let me tell you, there's waste, fraud and abuse, at least $150 billion, that taxpayers have provided to the Pentagon that just is scammed. To introduce an increase of $28 billion is unacceptable to me,
because we have the resources to enhance and make sure our national security is strong with the $858 billion now that's there. And, in fact, we need to cut it by at least $100 billion. That's a minimum cut that we need.

Katie Porter:
Voted against defense budget higher than what was requested
I cannot support a defense bill that authorizes spending $45 billion more than even what our commander-in-chief thinks is necessary to keep us safe. As a champion for oversight, I'm concerned that these taxpayer dollars will be wasted lining the pockets
of big defense contractors. Having recently returned from the Middle East, where I spoke directly with troops and commanders, I reject the false claim that tens of billions of extra tax dollars are needed for the sake of national security.

Steve Garvey:
Modernize our military; achieve peace through strength
A strong United States means a safer world. With emerging threats around the globe, it's more important than ever for the United States to renew our commitment to our alliances and our role in global leadership.
We must invest in modernizing our military and achieve peace through strength.
It's important that we work close with our allies and be prepared for the threats of tomorrow while actively positioning ourselves to counter the expansion of hostile foreign powers.
More than anything, in order for us to be strong abroad, we must be strong at home. We need leaders in Washington who will make level-headed decisions in the face of a rapidly changing and dangerous world.

Jobs & healthcare for 1.6 million veterans

160,000 active duty personnel and 1.6 million veterans and their families in California. She is committed to ensuring that veterans' facilities, including the
West Los Angeles Veterans Medical Center and other facilities in rural areas, have what they need to effectively serve our veteran community.
Senator Butler is also fighting to ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs has the resources to deliver on its promises to veterans and their families.
