I want great education for every child in this country. It is the great equalizer. And what we need is to have competition with the public schools. And we need to have parents be right in the middle of it because nobody cares more about our child's
education than us. That's why I opened more charter schools in New Jersey than any governor in New Jersey history, and why the test scores in Newark and Camden have tripled after having done that.

Public schools can compete with our private schools
For a very long time, I have believed that parents ought to be able to choose where their children go to school, public, private, parochial or homeschool. I actually think by letting parents choose where their kids go to school, all the schools are
going to get better. I have confidence that our public schools can compete with our private schools, and they will be more responsive to the goals and the values of the people of their community when they have to compete for those students.

Parents talk to their kids about gender--not in schools
What I said was, first of all, this all started with the don't say gay bill, right? And it basically said you couldn't talk about gender to any child before the third grade. I have been on record saying, I don't think that went far enough.
They should not be talking to our kids about gender, period. That's what parents talk to their kids about, not in school.
The idea that we have biological boys playing in girls' sports, it is the women's issue of our time. My daughter ran track in high school. I don't even know how I would have that conversation with her. How are we supposed to get our girls used to the
fact that biological boys are in their locker rooms? And then we wonder why a third of our teenage girls seriously contemplated suicide last year. We should be growing strong girls, confident girls.

Make universities back federal student loans
We're going to provide help with the student loans, but not the way the Democrats want. I think it's wrong that taxpayers would have to pick up the burden on somebody's student loan. The universities have facilitated a lot of the debt. Because they're
happy if you're going 6 years to get a 4-year degree because you get more loans--they grow their administrative budgets. So we're going to have the universities be responsible for backing the student loans. That's going to change the incentives.
Universities are going to have an incentive to graduate people on time, and to get them in programs that they're going to be gainfully employed. So, you're going to have less Zombie Studies. You're going to have more engineering. You're going to have
more things that are practical.A degree from a 4-year brick-and-Ivy university is one way you can be successful. It's not the only way. We need to tell young people that there are multiple pathways, including work force education & the skilled trades.
