Eric Doden: For strongest sentencing guidelines for fentanyl crimes

I believe we have to protect the vulnerable and that means supporting all measures that stop the flow of fentanyl into Indiana homes, towns, and communities.

A Doden Administration will devote agency leadership and resources specifically to caring for individuals and families suffering from addiction. I support the strongest sentencing guidelines possible for those convicted of importing or distributing fentanyl.

JB McCuskey: Stand by addicts and support thru recovery

Families in our valley face many challenges. One of the toughest of these is drug use. Our community has too many families with one or more parents addicted to drugs. This is a deep seeded problem that has many root causes, but none greater than the atrophy of pride that comes from a declining economy.

To begin eliminating this problem, we must first reduce the amount of people who become addicted through awareness and education. Then, we must stand by those who have become addicted and provide them support through the recovery process. Finally, we must create a diverse and vibrant economy that ensures pride inducing employment to every citizen that seeks it. It is here, by providing those recovering with the hope that better days are ahead, that we can stem the tide of this problem and begin to heal the wounds that it has inflicted.

Steve Williams: City is a national model for how to deal with opioid crisis

During the height of the opioid addiction crisis, Huntington was hit hard, at one point registering 28 overdoses in a four hour period. Williams marshaled community leaders and city resources and got to work. He created quick response teams and employed innovative new treatment options to help overdose victims find ways to break the cycle of addiction. Huntington went from being known as ground zero for the opioid crisis to being a national model for how to deal with the drug epidemic.
