Doug Burgum in Sunday Political Talk Show interviews during 2020-2024
On Abortion:
Signed strict ban in North Dakota, opposes national ban
Burgum said that despite signing into law one of the strictest and most conservative abortion bans in the country in his home state of North Dakota, he does not intend to institute a national abortion ban, as some of his competitors have suggested.
He said he believes such decisions should be decided at the local level. "The principle reason why we would say no on the national ban is because I believe in limited federal scope of the federal government, I believe in local control," Burgum said.

On Budget & Economy:
Balanced the budget every year and passed record tax cuts
In [his Burgum's] 15-second advertisement titled "Why", Burgum says, "First, fix this crazy economy. Second, unleash American energy production. Third, rebuild our military to win the Cold War with China."
His second minute-long ad titled "Change" touts Burgum as a "new leader for a changing economy." It highlights his background growing up in rural
North Dakota, using his inherited farmland to invest the seed capital for Great Plains Software. He sold the company to Microsoft for $1.1 billion in 2001, and became governor of his home state in 2016.
"As governor, we took North Dakota from billions in the hole to a surplus," Burgum said. "We balanced the budget every year and passed record tax cuts, again, working together. Think what we could do with America."

On Crime:
Tightened rules on civil asset forfeiture; curtailed police
Big forfeiture reforms are coming to North Dakota, a state notorious for allowing police to seize and keep people's property without actually convicted them of a crime. Burgum signed House Bill 1286 which seriously curtails law enforcement agencies'
ability to arrest somebody, take his or her property, and attempt to keep what they've seized for themselves even when they cannot prove an underlying crime. We're talking about the controversial practice of civil asset forfeiture.

On Immigration:
Sending National Guard to Texas strengthens border security
[On the US border]: "It's in the best interests of not only Texas but all states to prevent illegal entry at the U.S.-Mexico border and stop drug trafficking, human trafficking and other transnational criminal activity," Burgum said in a
statement. "Support from the North Dakota National Guard & other states that have committed resources to Operation Lone Star will strengthen border security and help keep Americans safe in every state, as every community is affected by border security."

During his time in office, Burgum has signed into law bills banning trans students from participating in school sports, restricting what bathrooms trans people can use in certain facilities and allowing public
